We are searching for funding to publish a book that documents the beginning of an international and transitory art project. MMX Open Art Venue started with the challenge of one year to change a dilapidated building in a commercial neighborhood in a foreign country into one of the most successful spaces for emerging and underexposed art and creativity. The space we used last year will be demolished and renovated into condos next year and the only thing that will exist is this book cataloging the whole MMX experience.
MMX is self funded by the artists who run the space and we need support in order to produce a high quality book. All the money will go into the designing, printing and binding costs of the book, with an edition run of 500.
The book will be in paperback novel size with approximately 225 pages. The first section will be about the history and concept of MMX and the second section will be the entire photo documentation of the exhibitions, showcasing each artists work and that of the screening programs, events, lectures and performances, all in full color on high quality paper.
The concept was moving into an abandon space and creating a laboratory for the local and international community. One year as a deadline to push the project forward and use the space to it's full potential. At the same time finding innovative ways to produce large scale and professional exhibitions on a tight budget.
Although the first location is in Berlin, the MMX team consistently curates 75% of exhibitions and projects from artists outside Germany. A strong emphasis is presenting the work of North American artists to a German audience.
This is the beginning of a nomadic project that will travel to other cities and re-purpose spaces into opportunities for emerging artists. We strive to bring people and art together by presenting exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, musical and dance performances, and unique weekly events.
The team of MMX are a catalyst for making positive things happen, the book is a record of this and is essential in conveying this idea at future locations in cities worldwide.
