Hi there, we are Ben and Em and we want to invite you to be bold with us. Brooklyn Biltong was built with two goals in mind: Introduce Biltong to America, and make a difference in our neighborhood while doing so.
We made our first batch of Biltong in 2012 as a snack for our wedding reception. None of our friends had tasted it before, but they met it with delighted tastebuds, and a demand for more! Their excitement in discovering Biltong led us to recognize the opportunity we had to make it more widely known.
What makes us different?
We established what we call 'Eat and Feed.' Because our Biltong is a grass fed, sustainable, protein rich nutrient, we give away 10% of our profit in the form of actual Biltong to local Brooklyn organizations. We've most recently been donating to Chips, who works with City Harvest in distributing the Biltong into hungry hands.
Building on momentum.
We opened doors for Brooklyn Biltong in 2014, and we were met with great demand! After being mentioned in GQ and headlining the popular blog Uncrate, it was clear that the market wanted more.
We were overjoyed by everyone that recognized the benefit of this new protein snack, as well as our cause. In order to open up more doors, we paused production to move our operation to a USDA-approved facility that met our growing demand.

What we are planning, and how you can help!
With your help, we can finish outfitting our new facility and purchase what we need to get Biltong back in your hands! (And mouths, obviously!)

- OUR OWN RECIPE: (With more flavors to come!) We will be launching with a new original recipe, and need some help cutting through the logistical red tape of approving the recipe.
- OUR DRYING BOX: In order to bring you authentic Biltong, air dried and all, we will be purchasing and shipping a South African Biltong box to our USDA approved kitchen.
- WHOLESALE PUSH AND LOCAL PICKUP: We are going full blast with cross country and local wholesalers. We want to eliminate shipping costs and put Biltong in your hands with a simple trip to the corner store! This means the cost of marketing materials, new bags and labels, and brand strategy.

Risks and challenges
Though we are confident in our estimated launch dates, our timeline for recipe approval is not guaranteed. Our last experience with the USDA was about a month, but if something were to hold it up, it would in turn affect when the Biltong gets launched. But even though growing pains cause challenges, we believe fully in Brooklyn Biltong's future, and of re-launching from a place of strength!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
