Dicey Politics: Road to the White House Card Game with Dice
You'll need a mix of luck and strategy to secure your place within the Oval Office as President in this highly addictive card game.
Dicey Politics: Road to the White House is a strategic dice and card game designed to simulate the United States Presidential elections. Players compete for electoral votes in order to secure the Oval Office. The first player to buy... hmm, I mean win 270 electoral votes will be declared President of the United States.
For those that are unfamiliar with the election process... The President and Vice President are not elected directly by the voters. Instead, they are elected by "electors" who are chosen by popular vote on a state-by-state basis.
Electors for each state are determined by the population. For example, a state with a large population like California will have 55 electoral votes while a state with a small population like Wyoming will have 3 electoral votes.
The object of the game is to raise campaign funds in order to win states. States that lean Democratic will cost more for Republicans and likewise states that lean Republican will cost more for Democrats... AND just like real elections their will be Swing States that equally hate (I mean like) both parties.
About the Game
2 or 4 players, Ages 8 to Adult. Players must equally divide into two teams of Democratic Candidates and Republican Candidates.
The game consists of:
- 4 rule cards
- 6 Dice
- 50 state cards
- 46 Political Action cards
To win the game, you must be the first person and/or team to earn a majority of the electoral votes (270 votes or more). You do this by raising campaign funds and by buying states for their electoral votes. If only two players are playing, the first player to reach 270 electoral votes will be declared President. If four players are playing in teams of two, the person with the highest point value on the winning team will be declared President and his partner will be declared Vice President. Each player will need paper and pencil for keeping track of their campaign funds.
Layout the STATE CARDS in 5 rows of 10 cards. While there is no specific order these need to be laid out this will serve as your play area. Please note: these STATE CARDS will indicate whether the state typically votes Republican or Democrat or if it’s consider a Swing State.
Shuffle the POLITICAL ACTION CARDS before each game and place them face down in a location accessible to all players. Leave available space for your discard pile.
Each player tosses one die. The player with the highest toss begins the game. Play will continue clockwise as the game proceeds.
STEP 1: You must turn over a POLITICAL ACTION CARD before each turn and do as it says. When action is complete you may place in the discard pile. If you don’t have the means necessary to complete action, you must retain the card until you can fulfill the obligations.
STEP 2: You toss all six dice to raise campaign funds. You must score every time you toss the dice. You can toss as many times as you want as long as you score points but you can also stop at any time before you DUMP the points. If you decide to continue rolling you must set aside any dice that have already scored. All points on a single turn are dumped if you roll without scoring. If you are able to score with all 6 dice this is called a TRUMP and you can continue to roll with all the dice again to add to your score but be careful not to DUMP because you’ll lose all points in that turn. There is no limit to the amount of TRUMPS allowed in a single turn. You score by tossing 1s, 5s, any triples or a straight (1,2,3,4,5 and 6 thrown in a single toss). The chart included with these rules will show how much monetary value each score is worth. Once you decide to stop rolling, mark down the “campaign funds” you earned on a score sheet.
STEP 3: After you finish rolling the dice, you have the choice of using your “campaign funds” to buy states or save your “campaign funds” until your next turn thus allowing you to save up for higher priced states. As you purchase states, place the card for the state in rows in front of you.
