Dear Kickstarter Nation -
Well, we've talked it over and decided to cancel our Kick for the time being. This was not an easy decision for us but believe ultimately our reasoning is sound.
First, we will Kick again. Lots of first-time efforts in this channel don't get critical mass initially only to re-kick and wildly exceed their asking amount.
We're bullish on our chances for a successful second Kick because between now and then we've got a great consumer show coming up in Seattle (which many of you have probably heard of) called PAX. We'll be able to give hands-on demos there to a ton of players and press at our booth. (No. 880 in the Indie Megabooth.) We believe hands-on demos will get a lot more people excited about the game. In turn, that excitement can translate into far more press coverage and momentum. Which, at the end of the day, is everything on Kickstarter.
Sometimes, when you're actually doing something novel (like an action puzzle crawl where configuring the dungeon on the fly is a critical part of the gameplay) you can't just tell people about it, you have to really show them. You have to provide lots of different examples to excite their imagination.
So focusing on PAX now and making our demo the best it can be also means having a better product to show for the next Kick.
From a production and design perspective, the Dwarven Delve we can show today is substantially better than the one we launched with. It continues to improve.
So that's our thinking. We need to face the reality that it would take a miracle to resurrect this campaign. However, if we focus on the opportunity before us, we can build buzz and make a stronger case for the next time around.
If you find yourself in our neck of the woods next weekend, please stop by and say hello! We would love to have you experience Dwarven Delve firsthand.
PAX Prime Aug. 30 - Sep. 2
We will most likely Kick again a week or two after PAX wraps. Possibly a little longer depending on how much we can get into the game.
Until then, goodbye for now from the TinkerHouse - and talk to you soon::
