ShoeboxLA gives Los Angeles artists an opportunity to do one-day, site-specific exhibitions outside the traditional gallery setting. Founders Sophia Allison and Paul W. Evans provide an intimate space that challenges artists' and viewers' expectations of size and scale. The physical gallery is a small, portable white cube for easy installation and deinstallation. This movable space started its first season in September 2011 and has appeared in various locations around Los Angeles including the Little Toyko Galleria in Little Tokyo, All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock, Paradis Ice Cream in Los Feliz, Alias Books in Atwater, Kabab Way in Glendale and the Studio for Southern California History in Chinatown.
This past June ShoeboxLA completed its first exhibition season. As we are a pop-up, mobile space, and our openings/exhibitions are only 3 hours long, we'd like to create a catalogue to highlight all the great work that artists have created for our small gallery this past year. We need your help--we are asking for funds to be used for the creation and printing of a modest-sized catalogue. The catalogue will be printed locally (in Los Angeles), and we hope to create 500 copies. It will serve as an important piece of documentation for ShoeboxLA; we'll allocate 2-3 pages for each artist to include images of their exhibitions with us during the past year. Please check out our great incentives for donating and thanks in advance for your support!
