Visual artist documenting every State Park and Forest in Wisconsin over a two year period, through the act of plein air painting.
As a 25+ year Wisconsin resident, visual artist and environmentalist, my life has been a journey immersed in the natural landscape. Equally passionate about the preservation of the arts and the environment, I have embarked on a two year journey to document every State Park and Forest in Wisconsin, through the act of plein air painting. For those unfamiliar with this term en plein air, it is a French expression translated, "in the open air", and typically used to describe the act of painting outdoors in one session.
I am camping and couch-surfing my way through all 57 locations and from each park take away at least one completed painting/drawing, photographs and journal entries which will be organized and published into a high-quality book. All 57 paintings will be framed and exhibited as a whole in the Spring of 2013. I am at the halfway point in my travels, and I need your help to accomplish my goal by the Fall of 2012.
Over the past year the WPAPP has been independently funded on my income as a professional artist. The cost of gas alone is huge financial strain. 5,000.00 needs to be raised for the remainder of my travel expenses, painting materials, framing for the final 30 paintings, and a start-up fund to develop a draft of the book to present to a publishing company.
This kickstarter fundraiser is an all-or-nothing deal. If the 5,000.00 goal is not met by the deadline, no money is exchanged. That means every dollar makes a difference. I am so proud of this project and couldn't be more pleased with the public response, but the project cannot be completed without this fundraiser ending in success.
If you are in the Fox Cities area of Wisconsin and would like to see the work in person, please check out the preview showing of the Wisconsin Plein Air Painting Project, 'In the Open Air', on display at the Wild Apple Gallery in Menasha. The exhibition is a collection of work that has been completed over the past year painting through the Wisconsin State Parks and Forests. The show runs through June 30, 2012. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope this project resonates with people and inspires others to step outside and explore the natural beauty just beyond their back door. THANK YOU, in advance, for your support!
