FUN + SMART + BEAUTIFUL
We've completely re-imagined playing cards!
With these stylish, hand-illustrated cards you'll bring a whole new kind of fun to your card game. Once you've figured out the puzzle, you'll see that these cards work just like a standard deck, with all of the traditional cards -- ace through king, in four suits, plus two jokers.
You'll love to challenge yourself and your friends to figure out how the 54 illustrations come together to make a complete, amazing deck!
The deck will be printed by the United States Playing Card Company.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each of the cards features an illustration or phrase that depicts the card's value and suit in a new and surprising way. For example: An octopus depicts one of the eights. A lion is one of the kings. The ten commandments is one of the tens.
For the suits, we've created four distinct families of illustrations or phrases. Each thirteen-card family has its own style and theme. Cards that go together in a family make up each suit. We've also created two very special and unusual jokers.
That's all we'll give away! The rest is for you to figure out!
For over a year, we've designed and focus-grouped this very special deck, working closely with card players, puzzle enthusiasts and collectors to create a set of 54 totally unique cards.
Standard cards just write "4" or "5" or "J" or "Q". We didn't want to do that. Our first challenge was to figure out lots of different ways of communicating a card's number. We spent months sketching and thinking, to come up with a set of images and phrases that communicated the cards' numbers in interesting ways.
Next, we got drawing. We meticulously drew each card by hand, making sure that each of the four suits had its own unique style. We perfected the illustrations' line quality using commercial design software. We then made prototypes of the deck, and took our show on the road.
We asked friends, family, co-workers and strangers to play with the deck. We used the feedback we got to tweak the cards to ensure that the cards were usable for standard card games, and also that they made a fun puzzle.
The deck is ready to go! We've completed all of the card and packaging artwork! All that's left is to get the cards professionally printed.
We've arranged to have the cards printed by the United States Playing Card Company, the world's premiere printer of playing cards, and the maker of the famous Bicycle and Bee brands. The United States Playing Card Company requires that we print a minimum of 2,500 decks.
We have made special arrangements to have the cards delivered to us in November -- which means we will deliver them to you in time for Christmas!
In exchange for your support, we are offering some cool rewards.
In addition to the cards themselves, we are offering a signed, limited edition uncut sheet of the cards -- so you can see all of the beautiful illustrations side-by-side, in order.
We are also offering a gorgeous limited edition box to store the cards. The box is solid red birch with a stripe of dark walnut along its spine. The box is the shape of a book, so you can store the cards on your bookshelf. The box is our original design, and it is handcrafted by our friend, master carpenter Mark Messier, of Coventry, Connecticut.
Thank you for any support you can give us!
ADAM + ADAM
We are Adam Farbiarz and Adam Thompson, close friends who met fourteen years ago, when we were freshman-year college roommates.
Adam Farbiarz (New Haven, Connecticut) is a designer, an inventor and an avid collector of playing cards.
Adam Thompson (Brooklyn, New York) is a fine artist and an illustrator, who regularly shows his work at galleries and art venues throughout the country.
THE FINE PRINT
The cards will be poker size, printed on Bicycle paper. The finish will be smooth, the same finish as the United States Playing Card Company's Aviator deck. The tuck box will have a custom seal. In addition to the 52 standard cards and two jokers (rendered in our unique manner), we are including a double-backer, and a "cover" card, which shows the image that appears on the front of the tuck.
We hope that you will support us as we try to make playing card history!

Risks and challenges
Although the United States Playing Card Company is a well-respected printer and has assured us that the cards will come in November, we recognize that there is always a possibility that the printing process can fall behind schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
