About this project
In Pocket Odyssey players assume the roles of legendary heroes embarking on epic quests, defeating monsters, finding loot and pretty much anything the players mind can imagine. One of the players is chosen at the beginning of the game to be “the storyteller”, they use innovative quest building cards to help them create a quest for the other players on the fly. Each of the other players assume the role of a single hero, they get to create who that hero is and then how that hero interacts in the storytellers world.
Pocket Odyssey is designed to be portable, the first micro RPG ever, measuring 1in. thick, 3.5in. tall and 5.5in. wide, this game will quite literally fit in your pocket. Pocket Odyssey has been designed for board game players of all backgrounds to pick up and play. Ever been curious about what a role playing game is, but were too intimidated by all the rules? Maybe you have played role playing games before, but don’t have the time to commit to a huge campaign anymore. Just want an engaging and fun fantasy game? Pocket Odyssey is what you have been waiting for.
- 2-4 players (5-6 w/ expansion)
- 90-120 minutes play time
- A tabletop RPG hybrid! No pen or paper needed!
- Innovative "on the spot" quest creation method allows for anyone to play as the Game Master. No prep needed!
- Focused rules keep the game moving quickly and bring the most fun parts of traditional RPG's into the limelight!
During combat the game is played on modular map cards with heroes and monsters acting in sequence; the storyteller controls all the monsters. Heroes obtain loot cards at the end of combat in addition to leveling their characters stats. To win the game, each player must complete the main quest developed by the storyteller (through the use of the quest cards) as well as their own personal quest cards (which are kept hidden until completed).
The main way to create characters in Pocket Odyssey is for each player to randomly draw 2 background cards, 3 skills and a flaw. The background cards determine what your character is good at, for example “the Ogre Slayer” is a master at athletics, can withstand pretty much anything tough (like extreme weather or poison gas), and can even intimidate almost anything. The “Aelfen Blood” on the other hand knows everything there is to know about nature, has animal like senses and has the stealth of a ninja.
Each power card represents a unique ability your character will be able to perform, for example the “Tough” power allows your character to take more hits while the “Fireball” power allows your character to cast a fireball spell. Hold on a sec. What if a tough fighter type draws a “Fireball” card, can he use that? Of course! Think of it this way, maybe he has natural fire abilities. And yes, if you have the “Charmer” background, he could have the “Tough” power and “Quick Shot” power making him deadly in combat and great at dealing with people.
The last element of character creation involves drawing a random flaw card. This represents how others would describe your character in one word. Some examples of flaws include “gullible” and “epic beard”. These help each player to get into their role a little easier.

Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge I will be focused on is the length of time that printing and shipping the games will take. I have tested the printing company's quality and shipping time on a smaller level and have scheduled the project to be shipped by November, hopefully allowing enough time to arrive by December even if the process takes longer than expected or there are manufacturing quality issues or freight logistics problems.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
