I want to self-publish my illustration book about my childhood memory of Taiwan.
“I don’t really belong anywhere. My roots are in my memory. ”
~ Issabel Allende.
As an artist and illustrator, I love recording my life through drawing. As time goes by, parts of our lives become our memories. Each event that happens to us is unique and can’t be repeated, so we can only store it in our minds.
I grew up in Taiwan. In 2011, I came to the U.S and began a new life here. Looking back on the days I spent in different cities, I realized that every period of my life is so special and irreplaceable that I want to record and represent them in my illustration book to share with people. The first memory illustration book talks about my entire life before I went to university, when I was in Tainan and Kaohsiung City, Taiwan living with my family.
I’ve already finished the book spreads and I want to publish it myself as a limited edition. My goal is self promotion. I want more people to get to know my art in the U.S and I want to start my illustration career here. Some of the books I print will be sent to the publishers as part of my portfolio. I will also sell the books on my Etsy shop, craft and art fairs, and Amazon. The book will be printed in full color, 8’’ x 8’’, 40 pages, hard cover, and I will sign and doodle in every book.
The money will go to...
Most of the money will go directly to book printing fee. Also, I have to take out some to cover Kickstarter and credit card processing fees, art supplies, post cards, prints, shipment and other expenditures for rewards.
In my plan I’ll only print small and limited quantities of books. However, if I am lucky enough to receive more than my goal, I’ll make more prints or use the extra money to publish my other illustration books. (You can see my another illustration travel book---"Alice in NYC", I love traveling!)
This project will be instrumental for me in starting my career in the US. I’d like to thank all of you for taking time to review my plan and for your support. If you can’t contribute, you can still say hi to me at email@example.com
Please feel free to contact me if you have any question or if you’d like to use my illustration on any commission work.
