While everyone likes to receive gifts, finding the right gift to give can be a difficult task. Gift givers have a hard time figuring out what gift receivers like spending lots of time scouring the internet and social media sites. Even if the gift giver knows the gift receiver well, it is common that the gift giver finds it hard to get inspiration for a gift idea.
Especially around the holidays when you have to get gifts for a lot of people, coming up with gift ideas can become even more time consuming and stressful. According to a Time Magazine article, Americans spend an average of 14 hours Christmas shopping, and 71% of them admit that they may not like the gifts they receive. Clearly, this a widespread problem that needs to be addressed.
Our Solution & How It Works
GiftBook helps gift givers by analyzing publicly available information from social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. A word cloud based on posts and information can be generated for any friend on Facebook to give the gift giver a quick look at gift receiver’s recent interests. Then, the gift giver can choose one or multiple words as well as the budget to get a random gift idea. If the gift giver likes this idea and wants to buy it, he or she can click and go to the corporate merchant website to complete purchase process. If the gift giver likes the idea but thinks it is more suitable for another friend, he or she can save it to his or her GiftBook and tag the other friend. If the gift giver does not like the idea, he or she can see more gift ideas related to the selected words or select new words to get new gift ideas.

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk and challenge to us at the moment is developing an algorithm or system that can accurately pull information about people from the internet and social media sites and suggest personalized gifts using that information.
