Upcycled Precision Machined "Doublesix Dice" & Triplefour's
No more d6 cubes.Time to Roll Better. Precision machined metal d12 gaming dice numbered 1-6 twice offered in different anodized colors.
I have produced a line of polyhedral dice in a previous Kickstarter campaign that was successful and my backers truly loved. I contacted Matt Fleming over at "Doublesix Dice" (website) and discussed the idea with him of running a project campaign to produce Precision Machined "Doublesix Dice". Matt thought the idea was great and gave his approval to use the name "Doublesix Dice" within the project title.
Matt I want to send a heart felt Thank You for supporting the idea :)
So let's bring another material version of "Doublesix Dice" to life!
Precision Machined Metal "Doublesix Dice"
The standard d6 cube style dice has been around for a very very long time as we all know. And it definitely serves its purpose throughout the gaming community.
But the real question: Is there a way to create a die that would "Roll Better", be more weight balanced with the opposing sides having the same number of pips drilled to the same depth, and provide a more modern evolved design to the classical d6?
I'm here to introduce you to Upcycled Precision Machined Dodecahedron Metal "Doublesix Dice". They are d(2x6) 12-sided dice that are CNC machined one by one with pips and laser etched with numbers 1-6 twice. Absolutely lightweight, solid, durable, roll beautifully and machined from 6061 solid billets of recycled aluminum. These dice have smooth rounded corners that will not scratch your board games or tables like straight edged metal dice.
For all those gamer's that are looking to put a little "thunk" in your dice rolling or simply just dice collectors, here's your chance to own a pair, heck maybe several pairs of these awesome metal dice.
Many of you may know me from my last metal polyhedral dice project which was a success :) I work hard in making sure everything I do is a direct reflection of the outcome received as the end product. And my previous backers can certainly vouch for me.
Why recycled aluminum for the Precision Machined Dodecahedron "Doublesix Dice"?
The simple answer honestly is the fact that I am a Eco friendly natural resource recycling crazed type of person that believes in re-using resources we use everyday and turning them into really cool products. More and more products today are being produced from clean recycled materials. The process of recycling aluminum has been in common practice since the early 1900's. It has proven to be both economically and ecologically of value that both recycling and recovery has become a huge industry in itself.
Weight and Measurments:
Aluminum Die Weight- 0.5 oz
Dimensions- 3/4" or 19mm
Offered as Triplefour's:
These Upcycled Precision Machined dice will also be offered as Triplefour Dice with pips or numbers. You choose which version you want and the anodized color from the reward list.
Manufacturing of Precision Machined Dodecahedron "Doublesix Dice"
I have commissioned my metal machine and surface finishing company that I am working with that manufacturers different products from all makes of metals. Large quantities of aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and other recycled metals are purchased and processed onsite. Once the metals have been brought back to a solid state diverse products are produced using metal cutting and drilling machinery.
Your pledge will help with the tooling, labor, materials, packaging and shipping cost.
My Upcycled Precision Machined Dodecahedron "Doublesix Dice" are CNC machined from a solid block of clean recycled aluminum. Each die is CNC machined one by one precisely to within .001" (one thousandth of an inch). Once this phase is complete the machined dice are bead blasted to remove any rough areas then polished to smooth the entire surface leaving no striations. The dice are then sent to the surface treatment facility where they will be anodized, pips drilled and numbers laser etched.
Below is a time line for production to fulfillment:
1. Recycled aluminum will be cut to size to begin the production process 4th week of September 2014.
2. CNC machining of the Upcycled Precision Machined Dodecahedron "Doublesix Dice" by the metal machine shop will 4th week in September 2014. This process will take approximately 45-60 days to complete all orders.
3.Surface finishing will start the 4th week in November 2014 and be completed by the end of the 1st week in December 2014.
4. Pip drilling and laser etching will start 1st week in December 2014 with a projected completion date 2nd week of December 2014.
5. Finished product will be shipped directly to me and packaging and postage printing process will begin 3rd week of December 2014.
6. Precision Machined d(2x6) Dodecahedron Dice be set to start shipping to backers the 3rd week of December 2014.
It is my goal to 100% make sure this project is carried out and completed from production to shipment.
I will post updates under the Update Section on the project page and be as transparent as possible in keeping all backers informed of the progress along the way.

Risks and challenges
I'm excited about this project and I have proven before with the success of another campaign that I can produce quality products. I learned a lot from that campaign, and definitely will place the same level of energy into this project in making sure everything is carried out as seamless as possible. I have contracted the same metal shop company that I love working with and they are ready to start machining of the dice. Dice bags have already been purchased and ready to be filled.
The only problem that I can see possibly but with little doubt arising is being able to package and ship thousands of pledges out, but if pledges reach into the thousands than I have good solid help that is ready to pitch in and push these out.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
