Cellbloc Studios is proud to present SnarfQuest Tales, the point-and-click video game starring the one-and-only Snarf, the most famous creation of Dungeons and Dragons' illustrator Larry Elmore. At long last, you can participate in the adventures of your favorite zeetvah, and his pals, including the armored warrior wizard Aveeare and the barbarian babe Telerie Windyarm, as they join forces to defeat the evil time-traveling Suthaze and his loyal guard drag-- uh, duck.

Our story starts in 1983. Dragon Magazine was looking for someone to create an original fantasy adventure comic strip. The man who answered the challenge was Larry Elmore, a young artist widely known for illustrating TSR's Dungeons and Dragons role-playing-game products, including the cover still used on the "red box" Base Starter Set. For Dragon Magazine, Larry created Snarf, an ambitious warrior determined to win a contest and become king of his tribe. The resulting SnarfQuest was an instant hit.
Fast-forward 30 years and SnarfQuest is still as popular as ever. James Simpson, founder and president of Cellbloc Studios and longtime fan, got tired of waiting for someone else to make a SnarfQuest video game. Assembling a team of professional video game designers and programmers, James began developing a game in his favorite style: the point-and-click system popularized by such classics as King's Quest (which coincidentally also debuted in 1983).
In SnarfQuest Tales, the player will assume the role of the inimitable Snarf and guide him on his quest to find wealth and fame so that he can earn the throne of his tribe. Snarf will be faced with a variety of puzzles, including fetch quests, quicktime challenges, word problems, and mechanical puzzles. By interacting with Snarf's world, can you find a way to overcome evil, earn the gold, and win the crown?
SnarfQuest Tales will consist of 5 separate episodes, each following Snarf on a new quest as part of his larger storyline. Each episode will be released individually, a new episode debuting every three months.
SnarfQuest Tales is designed to delight SnarfQuest fans of all ages.
The free demo we have available for download on our website, SnarfQuestTales.com, is the best advertisement we have for what we are planning. The demo is based on an alpha version of the game that still has a few rough edges (we're already working on new voice-overs, character animations, and camera angles for an improved gaming experience), but it remains very similar to what you should expect in our finished game.
The game will be released digitally and has already been approved via Steam Greenlight (see SteamCommunity.com for more details).
In addition to Steam, the game will be available digitally on GOG, and a DRM-free DVD will also be available for purchase once all episodes are complete.
Many people have contributed to bringing SnarfQuest Tales to life, but none of this would have been possible without three people who have been there since the beginning:
- James Simpson, director & programmer. James has been developing software and games for decades and has become an authority and instructor in the use of the Unity game engine. James is the head of Cellbloc Studios, which has produced many fine games and apps both under its own banner and for others.
- Jonathan Thomas, lead artist. Jonathan is a passionate artist who has been an avid fan of games and comics all of his life. He ambitiously handles many aspects of game creation such as modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting, and design.
- Walter Stephens, writer. Walter spends more time playing video games than is probably healthy, but that's an asset in his line of work as a game designer and programmer for Cellbloc Studios.
- Curtis Bryant, composer. Curtis has worked in many genres, including music for film and video games, as well as concert and stage music. He hopes to provide a symphonic score that creates a sense of adventure with a humorous nod.
Of course this game would not be possible at all without the participation of Snarf's creator, Larry Elmore. Larry has been a constant consultant for every step of the game, and we would not be here without his feedback and approval.
In order to make this the best game we can, Cellbloc Studios is turning to you, the SnarfQuest fan. Supporting this Kickstarter project will help us hire the best voice actors and artists. It will also ensure that we can fund proper licenses and ensure timely distribution. Not only will you be ensuring that Snarf will get the game he deserves, you can also pick up some great SnarfQuest loot!
Because the rewards from many but not all lower tiers are also given to higher tiers, we've made this chart to help you see what rewards you are eligible to receive for each reward tier.
In addition to the above rewards, we have more thing to offer:
We've used the game models of Telerie and Snarf to create statuettes. These are available in 4-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch heights. Rather than try to guess what level of reward tier is appropriate for these stunning (but expensive) collectibles, we've decided to turn them into add-ons.
If you pledge $15 or more and want one (or more) of these statues in any size, follow these simple steps when you are finalizing your pledge:
1. Adjust your pledge to add the necessary amount for the appropriate quantity and size(s) of the statue(s) you want.
- For 4" figure, add $100
- For 6" figure, add $170
- For 8" figure, add $270
- All prices above include domestic USPS shipping costs. For shipping to Canada, please add an additional $30.
2. After the Kickstarter ends, we will send you a survey. Simply answer the survey and tell us what statue(s) you paid for.
3. We'll compare your response with your donation, and once everything checks out, we'll mail you your new statue(s).
UPDATE 2015-08-20: Due to popular demand, we're making the SnarfQuest miniatures (included in the $100 tier above) available as add-ons. Set contains 11 unpainted miniatures (Snarf, Telerie in dress, Telerie in armor, Aveeare, Etheah, Geezel, Raffendorf, Suthaze, lizard and leech, and Larry Elmore and his easel). If you pledge at least $15 and want to add one or more complete sets of SnarfQuest miniatures to your order, please follow these instructions:
1. Adjust your pledge to add $20 per miniature set plus the appropriate amount of shipping.
- If your pledge is below $40, add $10 shipping per set.
- If your pledge is $40 or more, add $5 for shipping per set.
2. After the Kickstarter ends, we will send you a survey. Simply answer the survey and tell us how many sets you paid for.
3. We'll compare your response with your donation, and once everything checks out, we'll mail you your new miniatures when we ship the rest of your donation goodies.

Risks and challenges
SnarfQuest Tales is being developed by a team of experienced game designers, artists, and programmers who love Snarf. We didn't start this Kickstarter until we were 99% sure we were going to reach the market even if we don't raise all the revenue we're asking for here. However, this Kickstarter campaign is a chance for you, our fellow SnarfQuest fans, to help us get our product to you bigger, better, and faster. In short, help us make this the SnarfQuest video game you deserve.
October 2015: We have already been granted Early Access on Steam, so donors to this Kickstarter campaign will be granted access to the demo through Steam as this Kickstarter ends.
First Quarter 2016: SnarfQuest Tales: Episode 1 will be released to the general public with future episodes to follow every three months.
October 2016: Hard copies of the game will be released once all five episodes are complete and ready for release.
