We set out to make a product that would alleviate the hassle of bike storage and help the bike fit into more people's lifestyles. We have spent the last two and a half years meticulously designing, developing, testing and engineering Billibars. After over 31 months of research and 7 stages of testing prototypes, we are ready to introduce Billlibars to the world. Below are a few versions of Billibars' prototypes over the years...
These handlebars are being subjected to intense lateral bending and 200,000 cycles of brutal fatigue testing. Billibars addresses a global problem, so we are certifying our handlebars to the highest International Standards (ISO).
Meet the founders: Taylor Roderick and Trevor Heder. Both share a passion for cycling and billy goats.
Billibars was founded and developed in Tempe Arizona. Prior to living in Arizona, Trevor lived and worked in Asia, mainly China, for over three years. While living there he was amazed at how many people rode bicycles. Most coworkers commuted daily on bicycles, and to protect them from theft or weather damage, would store their bikes inside their homes. Tack on that living spaces in China are commonly small, and the bike becomes a burdensome obstacle in the home; functionally, it can't be stored away, but neither should it be in the way. This got Trevor thinking of storage solutions that addressed the real problem—the handlebars—and wondering how he could address it without compromising overall performance. The idea for Billibars was born.
After some initial design and development Trevor teamed up with Taylor, and over the span of two-and-half years they’ve been able to develop Billibars into a business today. Seven phases of prototyping and testing bring us to the present. Trevor and Taylor are proud to offer Billibars as a global solution to a common problem.
Risks and challenges
Billibars is in the final stages of the design process. We're currently testing prototypes and making final adjustments to 3D modeling files to prepare for tooling. Kickstarter backing will help fund final tooling, sizing molds and other design adjustments to ensure that the product is completely dialed in for the best possible experience for our customers. Funds will also help to cover first round production costs to meet the demand for this innovative new product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
