A visual novel set in 1993, Wicked Willow will turn your moral compass upside down. Will you learn the ways of a witch from someone you can't trust? Would you turn trees into monsters to save a forest from clearcutters? Would you sacrifice your soulmate's memory to stop a war? And speaking of soulmates, how far would you go to fight for a love that society calls wicked?
Magic has Consequences
Follow Willow's trials and tribulations as she slowly learns the price of power. Whether it's a transfomative magic potion or deadly fireball, every option carries risk.
Want to play Robin Hood, stealing from a dishonest bank to help the poor? If you get caught, you'll go to a witch's prison, and Xarsi the Succubus is your new cellmate.
Should you trust Xarsi, or fear her? Or, perhaps, both? The choice is up to you.
And speaking of choices: don't want to use magic? You don't have to. But Tanya, Willow's mentor, has a saying about that: inaction has its own price.
Just the Story, no Distractions
In Wicked Willow, the story is the star. There are no stat meters to juggle, no annoying failstates, no tedious puzzles, and no parsing through spoiler-laden guides to find the "true" ending. You will never think "what do they want me to say here?" when presented with a choice. Instead, every choice is equally valid and can be experienced and enjoyed on its own terms, with its own consequences and plot twists.
Innovative Choice Mechanics
Wicked Willow employs an innovative twist to the structure of the narrative and the role of choice. I recorded a brief video to explain my new story mechanic. In short, the game's choices have a meaningful and immediate impact on the game, every time.
Many of the characters and romance opportunities in Wicked Willow span across the LGBT community, as the story tackles issues ranging from sexual repression to gender identity to conversion therapy. Wicked Willow is set in 1993, during the time when the community was just coming out of the shadows.
Before T.F. Wright (creator and writer of Wicked Willow) was an author and game developer, they previously worked as a fundraiser and activist for pro-LGBT causes.
Your decisions will determine which characters you grow close to - and give you a chance to impact them with your powers. For example, what if Shadow the cat wanted to become a human - would you help brew a potion to make that possible? What if Tanya had a premonition that Shadow's life would be in danger as a human, but Shadow wanted to take the risk anyway?
Wicked Willow will include an Art Book with all of the art and commentary from the entire team. It will also feature...
The game is funded! Let's see mow many stretch goals we'll hit.
(HIT) $5500 Mini Stretch Goal - Extra Art for Xarsi! I asked the community to vote on which character would get some more art (released before the game), and Xarsi was the winner!
(HIT) $6000 Mini Stretch Goal - Extra Art for Willow! If we hit this one, we're going to do more magical art for Willow, released before the game.
(HIT) $6500 Mini Stretch Goal - Extra Art for Shadow! If we hit this one, we're going to do more magical art for Shadow, released before the game.
$7500 Extended Epilogues: Endings will include extended epilogue scenes. Wouldn't you like to see how things turn out, after the end? With Extended Epilogues, you'll learn about the new life Willow will lead in the new world you have created, along with more details on your relationship to your romantic partner.
$10000 Secret Path: There will be a hidden, alternative story path included.
$15000 Original Song: Emphavoice (voice actress for Tanya) will write and record an original song for the game.
$20000 Animated Secret Journal: The Secret Journal will include motion graphics.
$30000 Animated Cutscenes: Professional animators will be hired to make sure the cutscenes come to life. If we hit this stretch goal, additional goals will be added.

Risks and challenges
The risks for a project like this are tech issues and the project not being completed on time. However, I've completed a visual novel before, The Pirate's Fate. I used a new engine which had a variety of unexpected problems and I managed to solve them. I've also successfully done NANOWRIMO, writing a 50k word novel in 30 days. So I'm confident in my abilities as a coder and a writer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
