About this project
Seeking finishing funds for “Studies in Space,” a short dance film and installation that explores movement, dance, and space. The film will be shot in ultra slow motion, 120fps, on the RED camera in order to see in movement what the naked eye cannot.
I have always loved movement in film, and have tried several times to make a film that captures movement in dance, in a way that only film can. But all those other films, which you can watch in full on my website, www.tatebunker.com shifted into different directions, leaving that desire unfulfilled. However, this film is different by slowing down the dancers’ movements, one can truly study and be amazed by the unique details of movement and dance.Dreams are always inspiring for me, and the ones that impact me the most feature large, open and mysterious spaces. Some are ornate and spectacular, others are confusing and chaotic. These spaces, with all their visual interest and intrigue, are perfect backdrops to the original movements created by the dancers. We have shot in the historic and opulent Toledo Club (Toledo, OH), and have identified several other locations matching its scale and majesty where we plan to shoot.
As an installation, the film will be broken up into 6 different chapters and will be projected large scale with individual sound tracks. Each piece will screen on a different floor of a rented building in downtown Milwaukee, and the lobby will be reserved for the reception area.
