Starting my own independent record label was always my dream. A lot of people told me not to, that all I would do was lose my money and waste my time. Against their cynicism, I started Stumparumper Records in 2008 with the intention of releasing music by my close friends. Since staring the label, I've made friends with musicians from LA, Chicago, New Jersey, Kansas City, and even Halifax Canada, and have released 4 7"s, 2 12" LPs, 2 cassettes, and a CDr in just one year of existence.
Unfortunately, the one bad thing about putting out music by bands that most people have never heard of is that people tend to ignore them. This makes it rather difficult to get people's attention about what we're putting out, which makes it even more difficult to get people to buy the actual records. As a label, I've funded each project with hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dollars of my own money. Although I wish I had infinite funds, I don't - and as a graduate student who has already spent nearly all of his money putting out records, the label is in a tight situation. I've got my living expenses covered, but label money is more or less depleted.
In other words, Stumparumper Records will be out of business unless a miracle happens. This is where you come in.
This label is my proudest accomplishment. I have met so many incredibly gifted musicians who have inspired me with not only their talent, but also with their passion for going against the grain and pursuing their dreams. I've always been amazed at the potential that people see in the label, and I love to hear how excited they are to hear about a tiny indie label that's putting out records for their love of music.
Stumpraumper Records still has big plans. We've got at least one 7" and 3 12" LPs that we want to get out this year, but we need your help to do it. All monies pledged to Stumparumper through Kickstarter via the list options at your right will go back into the label to help release more records. Hopefully, this will be the boost our humble label needs to regain our financial footing and move ahead at full speed with our killer roster of bands.
We would love to reimburse your pledges with lots of records from our current catalog. We have all of our current releases available including:
Fuck Montreal - "Winter Mange"
Scribbler - "My Old Lady"
