Established in 2004, Horse Less Press is a thin-skinned, bare bones literary press. We publish an online journal, hand-made chapbooks and pamphlets, and in 2010 we started publishing full-length perfect-bound books. We are especially interested in improvisation, collaboration, hybridization, and wild constraint. We believe in the necessary absence of every articulated thing. Horse Less Press editors and contributing editors are Erika Howsare, Jennifer Denrow, Michael Sikkema, and Jen Tynes; we also recruit and are thankful to receive the feedback and assistance of several great contributing readers, designers, artists, and DIY-ers. To get an idea of who and what we publish, browse our print catalogue and read our online journal. Thanks to rob mclennan, you can read a recent interview with founding editor Jen Tynes here.
In July 2012, we will be releasing our two full-length single-author books for the year: cloudfang : : cakedirt by Daniela Olszewska and The Soft Place by Kate Schapira. Excerpts from The Soft Place can be found at RealPoetik. Excerpts from cloudfang : : cakedirt can be found at Alice Blue, GlitterPony, Pank, Zero Ducats, and Night Train. These manuscripts were chosen through an open reading period in Spring 2011. HR Hegnauer is designing both books. They will both be printed by Bookmobile and distributed by SPD.
Making books is expensive. We charged a modest reading fee for our open reading period, which almost covered the design costs for these two books. Your donation will help cover the cost of printing and distribution.
