BikeBoot - The lockable bike bag
Ever forgotten your bike lights, lock or tools? What if they were securely locked to your bike at all times, wouldn't that be handy?

Thank you all for your support during this campaign. Unfortunately it has not been successful, however, I look forward to reviewing the campaign and hope to relaunch it in the future...watch this space!
If you would like to keep up to date with BikeBoot and other projects that I am working on, please follow the below link.
The BikeBoot allows the cyclist to store items, while on the move or while the bike is left unattended, in a secure and lockable purpose-built bag which is fixed to the bicycle using the existing bottle holder bolts.
Using the standard bolts found on almost all bicycles the BikeBoot will allow you to hold not only a sports bottle while cycling but also other items such as bike cable lock, tools, or any number of soft belongings.
While that already makes it more versatile than a normal bottle holder it becomes even more useful when used as a lock box. You can use the BikeBoot to hold a range of items securely within the 0.5 litre compartment. You could store many items including lights, speedometer, tools or even your beloved bear.
A layer of durable, fire retardant (to BS5852) and waterproof fabric protects your items while also preventing the bolt heads from being accessed. A cut/slash resistant fabric (Cut-Tex Pro) inner lining and a steel reinforced seam protects your possessions from unwarranted attempts to access your locked bag.
A 50mm wide heavy duty recodable 5-digit combination padlock will be provided to prevent unauthorised access to the bag.Being recodable it allows you to input your personal number. No need for a key!
The bag is held upright using a poly-carbonate bottle holder whose flexibility allows for easy access into the bag.
All prototypes so far have been created with a basic slate grey colour scheme to prevent the product from being unduly targeted by would-be thieves.
I would however be interested to hear whether backers would prefer the bag to be produced in day-glow yellow or gammon pink. Alternative colours for the shell are shown below.
To make sure the frame bolts are up to the job of securing your belongings, various frames were set upon. Seen in the GIF video below, a helpful bike technician from my local Bikes for Good store demonstrates the strength even in an aluminium frame.
The name BikeBoot was derived from the British phrase for a storage area in the automobile the 'car boot'. However, in this case, it is for a bicycle.
How it will be accomplished
I'd like to thank Hair of the Dog for allowing me to use their track 'The Game' on my title video. If you like them as much as I and want to see them perform they are playing at Bannermans Bar in Edinburgh on the 5th May or the Roadburn festival in Tilburg the Netherlands 19-22 April, so if you can check them out.
Risks and challenges
Months of development have gone in to this product to make sure the design is both user friendly and functional. A prototype has been installed on my own bicycle since December.
I have been working closely with both local manufacturers and high-volume producers who specialise in the Cut-Tex Pro material to guarantee there will be no issues manufacturing larger volumes and to ensure that contingencies are in place if/when production is scaled up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
