Wanna make a movie?
So do we. Let’s make it together.
Here’s the skinny. Scrappy Cat Productions (managed by J.T. Arbogast and Kimberly Dilts) are teaming up with Director Charles Haine to make Angel’s Perch, an independent feature film. But we need your help!
The basics: Angel’s Perch is slated to begin shooting in Cass, WV in the late summer of 2011. The funding earned through Kickstarter will be used to begin principal photography and secure additional capital prior to shooting. The more support we’re able to raise on Kickstarter, the closer we get to fully funding the film and shooting on schedule. If we reach our financial goal of $25,000 we will have real momentum and a proven crowd of angels, which is essential for making an indie film succeed. Your contribution and interest is critical to get this train going! And we promise it's going to be a great ride. Any amount of support over $5 gets you behind-the-scenes access, and we’re going to share images, thoughts, videos, and questions as we go. (But we won’t ruin the ending for you. Promise).
What’s the film about, you ask?
Angel’s Perch is the story of Jack, a successful young architect living in Pittsburgh, who must make the trip to his tiny hometown of Cass, WV to move his grandmother into an assisted-care facility after she is found wandering outside her home. But what was intended to be a two day, under-the-radar trip becomes more complicated when Jack can’t bring himself to leave Polly at the nursing home. Torn between the career opportunity of a lifetime, caring for his last living relative and running from his own painful memories, Jack is forced to choose between standing still or facing the pain of his past, so that he can finally move forward.
Inspired by the writer’s own roots in WV, Angel’s Perch explores all the complicated joys and difficulties that accompany the journey “home”. Set in the historic logging town of Cass, the film will be shot on a Red camera and will incorporate local musicians in the soundtrack for the project.
Independent film is a largely do-it-yourself endeavor. But doing it yourself is often lonely, time-consuming, and nearly impossible. Crowdfunding allows filmmakers to “do it” with others. We want to do this film with YOU! We hope you’ll come along for the ride.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where can I learn more about the project? Please visit our official website, www.angelsperch.com. There you can find a full synopsis of the story, filmmaker bios, our blog, and photos! We will constantly add media and updates to the site, and by making a contribution, you will gain access to exclusive video footage and behind-the-scenes updates hosted there.
Is my pledge amount publicly displayed? No. Only you and the project creator will be able to see your pledge amount.
If I donate, when can I redeem my reward? All perks, big and small, will only happen if our goal is met. If we do meet our goal, immediately after our deadline we will contact you to start the process. The screenings, parties and dvds etc. can only happen after the film is completed, so this will take a bit of time. Bear with us!
What if I don’t want the reward, I just want to support? No problem, there is a button that you can select if you don’t want the reward.
Can we exceed the goal? YES! This would truly be amazing. Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. This is only the beginning of our journey with this film; exceeding our goal would allow us to make a better movie and increase our chances of beginning production without delay. Exceeding our goal would be a dream come true!
Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made? YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new reward.
Can I give my reward to someone else as a gift? YES! That’s very sweet of you. If you would like to donate to the film but give your reward to someone as a gift, go through all the normal process of making a donation in your name. For billing purposes, this action must be in your name. After our deadline, we will send a message to you on Kickstarter. (It will be forwarded to the email address you provided). We will request things like your t-shirt size and address from you at that time. If you’re giving your reward as a gift, simply include the recipient’s information, and any note you’d like to include. We’ll make sure they get it!
What happens if the money isn’t raised in time? If our goal isn’t met before the deadline, your card isn’t charged, and no movie is made. We want to avoid this scenario at all costs!
Who does the money go to? Every penny (minus the fees for Kickstarter’s involvement) will go directly to the Angel’s Perch movie budget--your money goes directly to the funding of this film!
I'm not in the US. Can I still pledge to projects? Yes. You can pledge from anywhere.
How do we contact you? Glad you asked! Please go to the contact us page on the Angel’s Perch website: www.angelsperch.com. We will quickly get back to you!
