This is going to be a live three-camera shoot and the entire DVD project is expected to be finished in late spring/mid summer.
The last time I put out a DVD was in 2007. This project has been two years in the making. In those two years, I have been writing, practicing, writing and rewriting this new performance, over and over again, to get it just right. I can’t explain in words how much this has become a labor of love for me. My act is completely different from my last recorded performance. My life is different and even my style has changed. I think that is how it is supposed to be. I’m a long-form storyteller now—it isn’t about shoving punch lines down an audience’s throat anymore. It is about connecting with them and about taking everyone on a journey through my life.
This is where you come in. The cost involved to finish my work is high. So I’m asking for your pledges to help support my dream. Every dollar you contribute will go towards the funding of a three-camera shoot, editing, reproduction, packaging, venue rental and the hiring of a couple of extremely talented comedians to open up for me.
The incentives I have planned are amazing too, because the team helping me is amazing. Native Portlander and artist Chris Haberman is painting an original piece of art for the cover of the DVD. Haberman recently worked as art staff on season three of Portlandia! One lucky pledger will receive the original signed by Chris. Like a true Portlander, he cares about his community. Most of his artwork is created on post-consumer materials - objects given to him or found on the streets and alleyways of Portland.
Every pledge, even at the lowest level, will bring me closer to the completion of this DVD. You all have an opportunity to be a part of my story. Please help me tell it.
Risks and challenges
This risk factor in this project is pretty low, actually. The venue is already reserved for our filming date and the filming crew has also been confirmed. The media company I have chosen will do all the filming, editing, graphic layout, format conversion, and mastering. They even will send the master to a DVD distribution service for me. This leaves me free to concentrate on the performance. Two weeks before the event, the crew and I will be heading to the Star Theater to do some early prepping so there are no surprises. We also will be arriving at the theater several hours before the start of the show to do sound and lighting checks. The technical aspects of the project are being handled well in advance to ensure a successful night.
Even with all this planning, there still could be problems. If those problems do occur, I imagine it would be in the area of format conversion and content download issues. If this were the case, it could delay some of my rewards like the audio and video downloads for a short period of time. These rewards would still be sent out as promised even if I had to send them unconventionally. I can assure everyone who becomes a backer, worse case scenario, you will have your reward by the end of summer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
