In this chaotic world, you must adapt - either to forgive or survive.
Stricken with long-term depression over the death of your parents, the game opens as you are about to be evicted from your apartment. Without a job or any prospects for the future... you're desperate, so much so that you might even...
- ... join the mafia and uncover a heated feud and love affair gone terribly wrong.
- ... become a criminal allied with a team of murderers.
- ... suck it up and make an honest person of yourself.
- ... serve as the caretaker for two dysfunctional sisters.
- ... end up destitute on the streets.
- ... join the church and repent your sin.
But, mostly, you're either going to find love and happiness or die a terrible death.
✄ 12 Character routes, 3 endings per character
✄ 200k+ words (126k finished as of June 2018)
✄ Non-binary player character - protagonist's personality changes according to the personality test and prologue choices
This is our rough schedule for the coming months, with our game release set at December 2018.
For tiers that receive the OST, stickers, and other goodies, December will be the month when rewards go out. If you will be customizing one of the BGs, we will contact you much earlier (likely August/September) to work with you on the images!
January and February are reserved for bonus content in higher tiers (custom sprites, OC characters/chapters). We want to reserve plenty of time for everyone, so that we can add the best possible content in an update!
*This schedule is subject to change should we meet any stretch goals.
We have been working tirelessly on the game already, so we are quite far in the development process with over half of the script, backgrounds, and OST completed. Character sprites are also complete!
As of mid-June 2018, here is a general breakdown of game progress, broken by route:
What? A horror game that's also a romance game? Inspired by the widespread popularity of dating simulators and localized otome games, as well as the intrigue of horror games (beyond infamous jump scares), Dead Wishes strives to marry both game genres to a cohesive original English visual novel (OELVN) rich in character exploration and moral conflict.
Featuring a dynamic cast of twelve main characters, this visual novel has something to offer any player, even those who do not gravitate to traditional horror games. At the heart of this project is a game designed to push players' conceptions of right and wrong and help them further develop their own set of values, all the while introducing them to lovable (or hateable) characters.
Twelve characters? Are you crazy? (Quite possibly.) Every character in Dead Wishes connects to the other characters in a unique (sometimes obvious, but not always) way. It is up to the player to piece together the routes in order to uncover the full story!
Dead Wishes features a diverse cast of characters, and the player is not restricted from pursuing routes according to gender - the player can be whoever they like and romance whomever they wish.
Why Kickstarter? The simple truth is that we are a two-person team working on this game in addition to our day jobs. We have been working without pay up until this point, and would like to use these funds to repay our investments and invest in more assets to make this game even better!
*Please note that this game is marked as NSFW for violence and gore in some of the routes. Dead Wishes does not contain explicit sexual content.
All of the money funneled into this game (up to this point) has come out of our own pocket. Here is how we plan to divide our Kickstarter funds at the minimum goal (excluding stretch goals).
$1800 - CGs! Our artist works a day job, goes to school, and works on this game, so we both felt (both the writer and artist) it was fair that she is paid on commission. This will help support her so that she does not feel so much pressure from work, school, and more work!
$250 - Fees! Kickstarter deducts fees from successful campaigns, and we wanted to set aside a decent amount as a buffer. Any extras from this "slice" will be moved to the "Emergency" category.
$250 - Rewards! It costs money to make stickers, so we have set aside a nice chunk to dedicate to Kickstarter rewards.
$200 - Emergency - "Just in case" money for any road bumps during production. If we need to hire out for particular assets or any other issues, this will help cover some of the costs.
In the event that we reach our goal before the allotted time, we have a few stretch goals: more CGs, more chapters, and even a new route! Short answer: more content for players!
Keep reading for extra information about the rewards!
Name listed in credits - Your name will be featured in the credits as a supporter of the project!
Wallpapers - These are created from art in the game and will be delivered electronically as files to download. Files are 16:9 aspect ratio.
Key copy of game - Guarantees a copy of Dead Wishes for you at release! At the next tier, we add another key copy so that you can share with a friend.
Dead Wishes OST - The OST will be delivered electronically as files to download. Our soundtrack is completely original music and includes around 30 tracks. These will be looped a few times in each file.
Previews of Ophelia's theme, "Vermin" and Anise's theme, "The Last Dance."
Character Sticker - Our artist has designed some adorable character stickers that you can snag for supporting our project! You will either get one or three randomized, depending on your tier.

Closed beta access - Around November, we will open a closed beta for the completed version of the game. Supporters with access to this reward will be able to take an active role in development and experience the game a month ahead of other players.
Digital Artbook - This artbook contains a complete collection of character art, concept sketches, backgrounds, CGs, and, of course, commentary about the development of the game. If you are curious about the design of characters or want more discussion about the world of the game, this is an interesting read!
Design a side character - Besides the main cast, Dead Wishes contains several side characters that appear across many routes. With this reward, you have the opportunity to dictate your vision to our artist, and she will bring this to life! Of course, we will give you plenty of information about the side character to help you form a clear picture!
Customize Background item: A quirky reward that we hope people will not abuse. ;) Some parts of the game's backgrounds have been left blank, leaving an opportunity to add your input to the game.
As an example... the background for the player character's apartment has been left somewhat blank in the highlighted section. You can use your own imagination to fill it, and we'll work with you to make your vision come true!
OC character appearance - Wish your original character could join the cast of the game? With this reward, your character will make a cameo in any route of your choice (within reason - we will work with you to craft the best scenario possible). The character will not have a sprite, but they will appear long enough for their personality to be known!
Create your own chapter - With this reward, you will work closely with the writer to craft a chapter that you would like to see in any of the routes. For example, want to see Sergio taking a bath? Done! Want to take Ophelia on a date? We'll make it happen! (As with other tiers, the situation must be somewhat plausible, for example, we can't have Lucien get abducted by aliens.) [Chapters span between 1000-2000 words long, so this would be a significant addition to a character's route!]
Incorporation of OC into chapter (with sprites) - with this reward, we will make your original character a significant part of the game's narrative. The chapter they appear in does not have to be the same as above, and our writer is happy to work with you in order to help your character fit into the narrative! Please note! We will credit you in the game as the creator of the character, but we are not claiming that you are owed monetary compensation for the character.
Risks and challenges
As there are only two of us working on the game, and we work day jobs on top of this project, there is always room for error! Life happens and there's always the possibility that something will come up.
Nevertheless, we will do our best not to let road bumps get in the way and will keep everyone up to date with any changes in the game schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
