Welcome to "4P" pens For Pilots project!
I've had this idea for two years now since when I had my Pilots exam. Really needed something like this to reduce my workload when asked to plot a diversion during navigation exercise and calculate how long is going to take to fly 19 miles at 75 knots while flying the aeroplane. Not EASY!
This pen will allow you to measure the distance between two points on the aviation chart and quick look at the table will show you how long will take you to fly this leg. First designs date back in November 2015 but stumbled upon many limitations caused mainly by manufacturers not being able to make what I want or cant't make small quantity. And all this trouble only because I don't own a plant. Shame!
It has been a long journey. On the computer looks perfect but not so when you ask Senator or Crawford to make it. I made seventeen different designs and workarounds to suit a particular manufacturer. Finally BIC agreed to try and make a "small" batch.
I need your support to help me bring this pen to the aviation world.
The money will be used to order the first batch of pens and to cover the postage expenses to post the first pens to my backers. Eventual profits from the remaining quantities will finance future development of a premium and more sophisticated tool for pilots incorporating high grade materials such as Carbon Fibre, Titanium, integrated Time Piece, Fisher Space Pen re-fill and LED light for night use.
Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
The main risk for this project is out of our control!
Misalignment of the ruler-table along the barrel during the manufacturing process would be a disaster. We will end up with hundreds of pens not being able to make accurate measurements and this will be no different than a simple pen.
