About

Overview

Our society is in need of a renaissance, a return to craftsmanship, community and a forward thinking society. Everywhere I go I meet talented and gifted individuals, people with drive and vision, artists with amazing talents and craftsman who just want a chance to live in an environment that appreciates their hard work. It can be near impossible for people to find a place in our world to belong, to be given a chance to succeed following your passion or simply to have your work appreciated. Our project is an attempt to prove that profits can be made without anyone being capitalized upon, that when gifted and industrious people get together the results can be greater than the sum of our individual efforts.

The vision is to create a world of warmth and magic and share it with anyone that wishes to be a part of it. For people at home they would experience our vision in the form of a TV show, this wonderfully scripted comedy/drama was skillfully developed by some of the most talented screen writers I know. The show follows citizens of a small town during the renaissance as it is forced to transition from a medieval farm community to a kingdom that is a cornerstone of trade. The show masterfully weaves a satirical thread that shines an insightful and revealing light on our modern lives while connecting to the common situations that arise when we are confronted with change.

Too much of our modern lives is lived through a screen, since we need a set anyway we want to build a fully functional renaissance village. We want to be able to invite our audience to visit our town and experience the world they have been watching from their homes, see the characters, the shops, the streets and the wonder. We will offer guests everything from haunted Halloweens in the castle, to spending a week as a peasant, if a person wants to be involved we want the opportunity to be there. The show will follow subplots that focus on the shops and shopkeepers that our guests will meet. There are many thriving tourist towns all over america where the long term citizens operate their permanent businesses until the population surges for the tourists in the summer months, our goal is to become one of these towns.

Building this will be a challenge, to help with construction we will invite people to come and put their mark on the community by offering week long work experiences in trade for our hospitality. By involving the public in construction we will create a level of audience involvement that has been unprecedented. Our permanent vendors can come in and make themselves a shop and a home, with help from the craftsman that live onsite year round the community will flourish. By sourcing local materials and working towards supplying all those materials on site we would create a sustainable, growing community that respects both people and environment. Both day guests in costume and workers will have the chance to be extras on screen, allowing people to submerse themselves in a fantasy that for the first time can follow you home with a story that you helped create, in a community that helped build and in a chapter of history that you were a part of.

Every tourist town has shops, we want to support on-site artisans who are proud of their work, emphasizing built to last goods over “Planned Obsolescence” commercial goods and by having the project using those goods whenever possible we would supporting the on-site artisans. An investor with a lifetime pass could apply for a permanent job on site, and since apprenticeships come with room and board if someone wanted to move from an apprentice to a citizen they could be given the opportunity to do so. Some of the stalls and shops would be open year round, and others would open only during the summer renaissance fair, creating an opportunity for people with every skill, talent or trade to be apart of the experience and the community. The TV series would not only include these shops and even the shopkeepers in the filming, but we would use as much locally sourced goods as possible, showcasing the many talents of the people that are a part of the community.

We intend to invite the public to come and be a part of our vision in any way they can.  Our hospitality options would range from camping sites to rental rooms to permanent residences, everyone is welcomed to stay with us for as long as they can. You can get involved with everything from week-long work experiences to setting up your own shop or farm, anyone can experience an engaged and sustainable way of life in a community of people whom realize that together you can accomplish something greater than the things you own. Help us build, help us grow and if you can’t stay then follow us on the screen, visiting us whenever you can. Together we will be creating a destination resort village that will bring out the nobility out in everyone that stays.

A business plan and an early draft of the show can be provided upon request and may be added to the FAQ section at a later date.

We will honor all investments regardless of the investors willingness to participate or follow our guidelines; however if an investor with a permanent vendor license does not wish to attempt to follow the spirit of the project, they may be moved to a less desirable location, or be asked to shut down during filming (see business plan for vendor details).

If a life change prevents an investor from being able to use their reward we will do our best to work with them, since the rewards are being given at a discount the investment will be resold through us at original cost in order to prevent shenanigans. Resale may be delayed while the project is getting established.

We failed to get permission to use images of a local MN renaissance fair as an example of a successful fair, but if your in the area you should check it out. There is also a castle under construction in France that is trading experience for labor, due to a bad experience they would not allow us reference them, but if you want to build a castle it is an experience you should not miss.

Risks and challenges

If the project is successfully funded there are many steps to complete the project. Three things are certain, the land will be purchased, the inn will be built and the pilot will be filmed. Since the treatment for the show is copy written and the land will have a functional building, if the project stalls due to lack of interest, the assets should sell for at least 950,000 and a return of 90% of original investment should be possible. The other option (and we will poll the investors for this) is to keep the land intact and treat the area as a camping/resort area for everyone that owns a share and use the brew house as an onsite micro brewery/pub, everyone will have to pay for state property taxes equal to their share.
In short if the show fails and no one wants to visit, a $10,000 donation will return 9,000 or 1-4 acres of vacation land in Oregon (the rights to use this land would be transferable). There are many successful renaissance fairs in the US, and with the show giving free advertising and additional revenue there is no reason not to expect us to not be successful if we have amazing people such as yourself involved.
