Thanks Matt, we really appreciate the insight and the contact! Keep up the good work, and we are with you in Steam.
Hey Roger, yes, I am NDAd to a fare thee well. But the real answer here is that we’ve moved incrementally forward, but I’m not seeing anything beyond the typical Los Angeles hurry up and wait. That is, I have to hurry up to get my stuff in when they need it and then wait for a response. I’m not lovin it. Meanwhile, I’ve gotten back about 70 shots from the CGI house and I am working through secondary fixes before they move to color correction. I’m also working on Goblins Animated getting their stuff out. I was going to wait to update till I got something more meaty or if I can get my remaining 9 scripts for wos in the clear. If I can I’m then going to do SOMETHING with them while I’m in development on the other script. The main thing is that a lot of my social media is down (by request of Henson) to not confuse the market, but I still haven’t heard anything concrete. It’s frustrating. I’ll update you if the ship turns.
Hi Matt. Any news to share as of now? I appreciate the fact that you keep the communication lines open. A lot of kickstarters shut down until they have bigger updates which is somewhat annoying. Or are NDAs killing you off?
Hey Terry, Right now not a ton. We're trying to speed up the CG process, but we're beholden to this schedule so Steve and I are trying to figure out some other avenues that we can pursue to get the CG done because it's really taking forever. On the TV side Henson signed a three month extension on our contract together and we're meeting next week to go over what next steps are, but I don't have a clear picture. I'll let you guys know after I talk to them at the meeting.
Hey Matt, Any new year news?
That's a familiar face! Mr. Yates on Lucifer!
Roger, that's what I'm trying to do. The obstacles are logistical and legal. For the webseries, it really depends on how many shots I can get done by the end of the year and how many shots the people who are helping me get done. We're spending hours and hours on them every day and it's crazily time intensive. For instance, yesterday we were working on a reflection in the window. Maybe I'll post your comment and my response along with the image. The reflection was off, and we realized that based on the angle it wasn't in the right place. When it was wrong you couldn't do anything but stare at the weird reflection like he was some sort of off vampire. After we fixed it the actor just looked like he was standing in front of a window. It took a stupid long time to get it right and in the end (hopefully) the audience will just assume that they are in the world. That's the stage that we're at right now in gettin 'er done which is great because it's detail work. But it's incredibly time consuming because it's detail work. So. Tl:dr yes you're getting a DVD. I don't know how long this is going to take because I'm beholden to what I can do in a day and what the CG artists I've paid and the CG school that is donating it's time can do. I don't know if dvds will be something you get appraised on antique roadshow by the time I'm done but you will have one. The weird question of all of this is if I get this done at the same time the TV show with Henson comes out, will Henson want me to put the show out or will they want me to put the webseries on a larger DVD of the first season of the show? And what are the legal ramifications? Right now we're using a lot of my footage in finding a distributor, but that is all under a pretty big legal NDA. Henson/Hyde just approved my pilot and all of the other materials, and we just got another big hush hush partner, who will be bringing us to the distribution folks and the studios. I used to wonder why there were 17,000 producers on everything and 3 entertainment companies on the back end of every show. Now I know why. My producing partners on Tarol Hunts Goblins are also about to launch so it's 6 years of work about to go live. Fingers crossed there. The basics of all of it are, the things I have a ton of help on are moving fast. The things where it's just me are moving slow. But it's all moving. Thanks for still caring. I'll get you a DVD if I have to etch it with my teeth.
So. Given that you hope to be done with the web series by the end of the year (which I assume is 2017) I take it we may finally be able to see the DVD for series one somewhere in 2018?
@Matt King- While the second to last sentence is mana from heaven for the henson nerd in me, that last sentence- THAT SENTENCE with the casual "Meanwhile"- I have no way to express how cool. Good for you- Great for us! So look forward to seeing where that goes.
Hey Thomas, you can look at all of the updates since then on the updates page. The long answer is available there. The short answer is that we were picked up by a large production company then dropped, held under contract to not shoot because any existing material would be more of an onus for a studio to buy, got jammed by taxes, I covered the shortfall. We shot out the full remaining episode and had fires and all sorts of fun getting it done, but we got it done but it ate the remaining budget. We have over 300 VFX shots and have worked our way through about 65% of them to final. We still have a bunch to go. The progressions of some of the larger shots can be seen in the updates. The problem is that it's pretty much just me in post with help from the Academy of Art in San Francisco doing some of the other major shots, so it's going to take a while till they are all completed for the webseries. Meanwhile, The Jim Henson Company has picked up the project with the goal of bringing The World of Steam to television not as an anthology, but as an episodic. I've written the pilot, the bible for the piece and am in development of the overall show with Lisa Henson, Brian Henson and John Hyde. Meanwhile, I am about to launch a different kickstarter for an animated project with Phil LaMarr (Samurai Jack) and Tarol Hunt (Goblins).
So what is the status of the project? I remember getting a link to the first episode a loooong time ago and then nothing.
This may have been mentioned before, I don't remember at this point... I stumbled over a gameshow on Netflix called Steampunk'd and lo and behold our dear project creator was the first judge announced.
I like #1 the best, it looks different than others and has an organic transition.
Hey Terry, We're plugging along on the CG shots, just finished up reshoots (we even reshot the whole first sequence), we have to integrate them into the new cut do new CG, then color correction, ADR and music. So we have a ways to go.
Hey Matt, any news? Love to hear about all the steampunky goodness!
coming soon... lemme clear the toys out of the workshop.
Hey Matt & Crew! Was thinking about you today and hoping all is well! We'd all love an update!
This is GLORIOUS!
Wow, has it really been October since the last update? Hope all is going well...
An update would be awesome indeed
Any new updates? I'm still really looking forward to this!
Howdy. Just checking in! How are things going?
Happy New Year
Apple recently posted some information on common iOS app rejections. Whenever the issue is revisited, perhaps you may find it useful:
Looking forward to the next update.
Hey Marjorie! The DVD and CDs will come out when we finish the first season. We are in pre production for the next couple of episodes and I am going to release a full breakdown on all the goings on within the next few days.
When will receive the cd and dvd?
Added the soundtrack CD to my pledge a long time ago, but wondering if it's just the 1st episode and coming out soon, or if it's the whole series and is going to be a long time coming.
Also, I've moved, so what's the best way to update my shipping address for the CD?
Is there a time estimate for when the 6 episode, Season 1 DVD will be released?
I am looking forward the soundtrack
The Clockwork Heart is very impressive. Especially for an independent effort!
I didn't get my swag and I'm pretty sure I did the survey. Even if not, it sucks that I can't get my stuff I paid for.
Oh, and is it possible to get more air crew pins?
So piffle on the Apple app. When do those of us on Android (a larger group, mind you) get OUR clock app?
Actually Nicholas, the kickstarter was for the pilot presentation to network, but we had budgeted 75k for the initial CG, music, marketing, color correction, post production, and additional shooting. We used the additional monies as well to begin pre production on a full series and I have taken my own money as well as the extra money and decided to roll it into the webseries. We've gotten involved with a much larger entity that can call the shots on us a bit (which is limiting), but I talked with them and have now given a timeline and everything else if you watch the videos that we posted today. Here's the first update: http://www.youtube.com/watch… Hope that answers your questions.
Feeling like a harbinger today Nicholas?
I'm a little confused. Everyone is asking for swag stuff and applauding the pins--and they're nice, don't get me wrong--but I donated toward this for the web series, not for the swag, yet there's been almost no mention of any progress in the actual web series, so far as I've noticed (though I may well have missed it).
Any update on to when/where the episodes will be available?
Hey, I know you update the facebook page, but how about an overall update for the kickstarter. Its been a while!
Still not received the Swag Bag though seems some people have? Any tracking info available?
Love the pin. Thank you!
The pin is beautiful! Thank you!
Got mine too ^^
Got my pin today. I love it!
Really well, we're almost done!
Out of curiosity, how goes the shipping?
The pin is a real beauty! I got it today. Thank you :)
That should not have happened... odd. Thanks.
I'm sure it was not done on purpose, but my pin arrived with postage due since the pin was in a regular envelope. You might want to look into that...
