About this project
Thank you for finding out more about our visionary venture!
At a time when pop culture too often glamorizes violence and cruelty, when positive role models are hard to find, we at Kol Neshama are producing works that inspire, educate, elevate and entertain. Through the creation of distinctly Jewish films by women for women, we are engaged in building a bridge of understanding and unity between people from diverse backgrounds, who share a respect for religious values and a desire to make the world a more civilized place for our children and future generations.
Our first two movie musicals, A Light for Greytowers and The Heart that Sings, received international press acclaim, screened at several Jewish film festivals, and are both currently in worldwide distribution, having played to over 200,000 women and girls and growing!
Our newest film, Operation: Candlelight, completed principal photography in August, with sponsorship from Panavision, Canon, and private donors. Set at Torah Academy for Girls, a boarding school surrounded by the lavish estates of Hidden Hills, CA, Operation: Candlelight follows a band of misfits, seemingly the rejects of their school production, who become unlikely heroes when a surprising encounter rocks their world.
Your Kickstarter dollars will go directly to supporting production invoices, weeks of editing, scoring, sound, special effects, color correction and other completion costs of the film.
With your backing, you will not only be providing a vital contribution to our direct finishing costs, you will be making a powerful statement that films like ours matter-- that they are wanted as well as needed.
In addition to its young stars, the film includes great performances by adult cast members Nancy Carlin, Tahlia Miller, Shelli Borkow, Rivka Siegel, Batsheva Frankel, Philip Hersh, John Bauman, and introducing Benny Forer as Deputy District Attorney Benny Feldman.
With an international audience eagerly anticipating Operation: Candlelight's release, we are certain that this action adventure has the potential to engage an even broader audience than our previous films.
In 2000, Robin Saex Garbose founded Kol Neshama, a Los Angeles based non-profit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to providing professional artistic training and performance opportunities for Torah-observant young women, and to developing an emerging artistic voice. As a veteran stage director and filmmaker, she feels passionate about giving these budding artists the tools and craft necessary to compete in the entertainment industry without having to compromise their religious beliefs. It is noteworthy that the young actresses who appear in Operation: Candlelight are students of Kol Neshama Performing Arts Conservatory.
Los Angeles Times found A Light for Greytowers, “entertaining and uplifting…giving mothers a reprieve from having to explain teen pop stars’ drunk-driving arrests and pregnancies.” http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jan/19/local/me-banks19
Jerusalem Post called The Heart that Sings, "Groundbreaking!" http://www.jpost.com/Arts-and-Culture/Entertainment/Women-in-the-picture
Operation: Candlelight will be premiering, G-d willing, in Los Angeles (March 9), New York (March 11), and Jerusalem (March 17). Venues forthcoming shortly!
We hope you will become partners with us in bringing this exciting and innovative film to women and girls across the world. Every pledge is truly important!

Risks and challenges
Whenever anyone takes on producing an independent film, there are tremendous risks:
EMOTIONAL FORTITUDE: Will we work long, crazy days? Except for Shabbat, yes! After 14 years of running Kol Neshama, we know we are up for the challenges. We’ve faced them and we’ve overcome them, again and again. We will not give up!
COMPLETION: Will we be able to fund the project? Will we EVER finish? This is precisely where you come in, Dear Backer. With your help, we intend to finish!
REACHING OUR AUDIENCE: How can we make sure our film will be seen? We are blessed with an international niche market of women and girls, awaiting our new release, as well as the greatest Jewish distributors in the world-- MOSTLY MUSIC/ADERET. However, we continually aim to increase our viewership, and we'd love your help spreading the word!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
