Zingers! is a card game for the upcoming election season. Here's some background and an overview:
My wife and I enjoy having friends over and socializing after dinner. Games like Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity are mainstays. Talking politics is also a favorite pastime, but, it can get intense and take the bloom off the evening. Realizing others must face the same problem was the catalyst for developing Zingers!.
I have experience applying metaphors and images as tools in business and decided to try creating a light-hearted political game with them. I fabricated some story situations like you'll see in the examples, where you put words into politicians' mouths. Then designed snarky cartoons to cut through rhetoric, uncover motives and nail their true characters. This mash-up of a little fictional scenario and a sharp cartoon knife makes for laughs without confrontation. A bit edgy but so politically correct! My Mom would be pleased.
The game places you and friends in the newsroom of a funky paper called "Cartoons for Truth".
The Editor selects a subject and story line for tomorrow's edition and asks Reporters for political cartoons to complete it. They submit cartoons that zing their view of the truth about the subject politician. The Editor decides the best.
The flow of the game is similar to Cards Against Humanity. Each Reporter is dealt 7 Cartoon cards. The first Editor selects one Subject and one Story line and reads them. Reporters each submit the Cartoon card zinger they want the editor to choose. When all the cartoons are in, the Editor reads and shows them. Depending on your friends, there just might be discussion before the Editor chooses the winner. Then the Editor role passes to the next Reporter and a new round starts. The winner has the most cartoons "published" by the end of play.
And the winner is.... the cartoon the Editor thinks either gives the best laugh or best "tells the truth" about the subject, Jeb Bush in this example.
WHY I'M ASKING FOR SUPPORT
I've got the artwork covered for the Cartoon cards but need help covering the initial printing. If you'd like to contribute to making this game a reality, you'd be a welcomed and appreciated angel!
Risks and challenges
The development of images and text is well under way. Great results from initial tests with friends and neighbors. Reactions from more diverse test groups are being gathered now and might generate some re-work.
The up-coming presidential campaign should help the game find a good sized audience. There are a lot of politically informed and opinionated people who share the problem of how to talk politics without arguments and tension. My main concern is getting the word out, since my social network is limited. I'll be enlisting the support of others and would appreciate yours too-- so the public can become aware of the game while the election is a hot topic. Apart from that, manufacturing costs are the main obstacle.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
