About this project
This is an experiment in a new way to release a work of fiction to the public. It is the practical application of a growing trend in entertainment media: connecting with fans and giving them real reasons to buy.
About the story: It is the near future in a post-apocalyptic Chicago and Anton Donovan is an anomaly. That is, though he appears to be human in every respect, he is actually a mutated version of a human. There are several differences between anomalies and humans, but the most compelling of these is the anomaly’s ability to manipulate radiation that has been left behind by a long ago waged nuclear war. The humans fear this power and they have instituted a testing process to find and euthanize anomaly children in their cities. The result of this is that anomalies only live in freedom outside of human civilization. Because of a series of personal tragedies suffered at the hands of one of these anomaly enclaves, Anton joins the human military. They think that he is going to help them hunt down his own kind, but instead he is going to use his unique situation to push both sides towards a peace, even as both humans and enclaves alike prepare to wage a worldwide war.
Depending on donation levels, those that choose to grace my project with their hard-earned money will not only receive the eBook version of Midwasteland. They will also get signed physical copies, my time in reviewing any writing or work my readers wish me to review and critique, my time and craft in creating a customized short story about a person and/or topic of my readers' choosing, a DVD taking the viewer through both all the settings of the story in and around the Chicago-land area as well as the author's writing studio and places of inspiration.
The money is for both the physical costs associated with this project (book printing, DVDs, labels, shipping, etc.), but also as a way to fund future works. I firmly believe in connecting with my fans in any way that endears them to my work. The idea of creating unique works personally for them is the part of this I'm most excited about.
