About this project
More, better art. [Reached]
No Kickstarter account? No problem! (contact us if you need help!)
After 2 weeks we are finally able to offer you our soundtrack from our composer Brunuhville as an add-on. We did it! It will be delivered in December
Elisa - The Innkeeper is a unique Visual Novel experience for Pc and Mac.
It is an independent effort by a western developer (even though our team members are from all around the world) with the goal of bringing some new life into a genre that is greatly underrepresented both in the western market and the independent game scene. Personally, I believe story-rich visual novels can stand among the most beloved game genres out there today, and with the right level of passion and care such a game can really blossom.
"If I married all those who said they want me, now I would have so many husbands. All men who stay at this inn immediately fall in love with me..." Elisa
Our visual novel tells the story of Elisa, the beautiful owner of an inn, struggling with the amorous proposals of honorable Knights, high born Princes and rich Merchants. It will be up to the player to decide Elisa's fate, and his choices may even influence her destiny for better or worse.
The Player is not the protagonist of this story. His judgement affects every character and every action, like a god that watches everything from above. For this reason, every decision is a hard one, that will change the story forever.
We started our project knowing that there is a huge number of visual novels out there. We put a huge amount of effort trying into creating something unique.
Our story comes first.
When you sell a visual novel, you sell a story. For this reason we gave storytelling the maximum priority. Taking one of the most successful game trilogy - The Witcher - as an example, our story is inspired by our literature. We chose an eighteenth-century Italian comedy as our starting point.
Art and Music:
Playing a video game, in most cases, is most enjoyable if it is an immersive experience. For this reason we used almost all of our available budget to get high quality art and music.
When you read a visual novel without branching choices there is no replayability and the player has no influence on the game. This could be very disappointing. In our story, choices really matter. We want our players to be able to finish our game 3 or 4 times, we want to give them a different story based on the decisions they made.
Fixed font, fixed font color, fixed font text-shadow, fixed font weight/size, fixed dialogue window, color and so on... No thanks. We want to give our players the possibility to play the game the way they want. A green font with a red text message? yeah, why not.
We introduced some of these features in our Prequel, even if they are still limited (due to budget distribution). We are aware that our current interface could be a million times better but our Prequel is just our first step. We hope that, thanks to your help, we will be able to get enough funds to develop every aspect of our game to its full potential.
In our game you have the possibility to unlock items; this feature will open new in-game branches and can influence every character’s fate.
During the development of our game, we put a great deal of effort in the search for a music style which could perfectly fit out fantasy theme, and which would be pleasing to listen to as well. We were lucky to be able to contact the well-known composer Adrian von Ziegler, who agreed to work with us.
We set out on this adventure knowing we would need to successfully complete a Kickstarter campaign. Obviously though, actions speak louder than words.
For this reason, before publishing our campaign we made sure we would release our Game Prequel on Steam, which is free to play.
Or if you want, you can play a PreRelease version of our prequel, downloading it from our dropbox!
Our Prequel features a brief episode in our story and the 25% of the full game. This amounts to about three to four hours of gameplay, if the player fully explores all available story branches.
Elisa - The Innkeeper is my dream game and something i do out of passion at my own expense. The incredible talented people who help out developing this game need to be compensated for their contribution and, up until this point, this entire project has been funded out of my pocket.
A successful campaign would allow me to:
- Focus on developing the game without having to worry about having extra jobs to boost the game's budget.
- Continue to compensate the wonderful team that is working on this game with me.
- I want to hire a computer engineer that could help me create a new engine for the game
- Deal with business and legal responsibilities associated with releasing a game
- Develop our game at its full potential and devote a decent amount of time working on the game instead of being limited to spare after-work hours and weekends, sacrificing sleep and much needed life outside work.

Steve is studying at the Writer's School in Milan to become a professional writer. During the time I've known him, he would often show me some of his work and sought my advice, and I always found it very interesting. When I talked to him about my project, he volunteered to take up the demanding job of writing the story. He also helped with the expenses I had to create this game.

Stretch goal Additional Details:
€5000: More, better art. [Reached]
€7000: Two extra endings. Our visual novel already features several alternative endings, however we believe that a widely branching story is one of the greatest appeals within this genre. If we reach this goal, we will add two to three extra endings, making the plot even more enticing and adding replay value.
€8500: More romance option and Linux! Even in the prequel you can get a small taste of what could happen in the full game. If we reach this goal, we will add more romantic scenes, and we will significantly improve the artwork on the existing "special" scenes.
The game will also be released on Linux.
€10000: Further improvements. If we reach this goal, our visual novel will receive an explosive art overhaul. We will add many new poses, expressions, background, chibi artwork which will make every scene unique and amazing.
We will also introduce some new in game functions that will allow you to manage your in-game items and personalize the in-game GUI.
€15000: Elisa's Past DLC. This DLC will be free for everyone who pledged at least €9 if we reach this goal. This DLC will explore Elisa's relationship with her father and will feature more branching plot-lines.
€18000: Digital Manga Adaptation. If we reach this goal, we will create a digital manga based on Elisa: The Innkeeper, following the most popular branch based on community feedback. Moreover, all those who pledged at least €9 will have unlimited free access to our manga.
€21000: Voice Acting. If we hit this critical milestone, we will add full voice acting in Italian, to give our game an even more appealing feel.
€30000: Advanced Animations. If we reach our last goal, our vision for the game will be truly achieved. We will add animations to all of our characters, making our game so much more gorgeous and dynamic.

Risks and challenges
The worst that could happen to us is stumbling into significant delays in developing and shipping the game. We carefully picked our team and even without an official sponsor we managed to stay on track for the release of the Prequel, fulfilling our promise following the Steam Greenlight campaign.
Even if the worst happens, we will do our best to limit delays, and we will notify our backers in advance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
