Tired of retailers that don't support you? Love the styles of clothes in JCPenny, Macy's, and so forth, but the price is too high and there is no guarantee that you might find your size. Your contribution helps to bring it to the world.
I have been plus sized since I was a kid. Finding cool clothes was always a struggle. I had to settle for a lot of clothes that I didn't really love. Like a lot of women, I bought more shoes or better accessories because my clothing options weren't great. The plus size market has changed only slightly over my life time. There are a few more stores, a few more lines but there are still far too few options for a growing number of women in the US and around the world.
I started this line because I wanted better clothing options and was not finding them in plus size stores and got tired of buying clothes in stores that flat out refuse to carry plus sizes. The quality and style for many plus size brands was not what I wanted and with my apple shape, I couldn't/didn't want to wear items that were very structured or fitted at the waist, which reduced my already few options.
This is just the beginning! A successful round of funding will allow us to produce and bring my drawings to life with lots of color in this collection as well as add even more options for sale on a website.
The good thing about all of my designs is that they all double as dresses. We plan on offering sizes 14-40w, 1x-7x. We are working out the details with the sew and cut manufacturers with each design so that it fits each woman like a perfect ten. We can all have a closet full of clothes we love!
Risks and challenges
1. Availability of my chosen fabrics. For many items I have already bought all the fabric that was available, but for a few items it was too expensive to buy it all in advance. To address this potential problem, I am offering limited quantities at first to be sure that enough fabric will still be available for every item I offer.
2. Manufacturing. I have relationships with several factories in case one becomes too busy or falls through. These factories are also willing to do smaller batch production. Some of my factories are in India and the United States, which means items can be caught in customs (though unlikely) or there may be other delays. I purposefully made the delivery periods longer than I thought I really needed, in case something unforeseen happens.
