To my family, friends, my fellow authors and artists:
All things must end, but each ending is the opportunity for a new beginning. This concept is the heart of "The Music of Change," the first part of the Anywhere But Here trilogy.
"The Music of Change" is the first original play by Aaron Todd Spratte. It was presented as a student practicum at the University of Northern Colorado in 2002. After several staged readings and 11 years of fine tuning, it is finally ready to be viewed by the public. In a way, life is imitating art, as the play reaches the end of its construction and begins its journey towards production.
The theatre has been booked for May of 2014. This campaign has been organized to fund the technical aspects of the production (lights, set, sound) while simultaneously ensuring that those who want to see the finished product have the opportunity to get their ticket ahead of time, and possibly get some cool bonuses in exchange for their pledge. This campaign will also ensure that the efforts of those who have helped get the story to where it is will be rewarded with a fully realized stage production.
It has been 11 years since the practicum...Why now?
Paying it forward for those that came before.
In 2002 I was blessed with what can best be described as the most gifted group of professionals I have ever seen. They put forth an incredible effort in helping me realize a dream and I am eternally grateful to all of them. Their efforts and the emotional investment they made brought a new element to the story, one that I wanted to infuse into the show but needed the maturity as a person and a writer to accomplish.
"The aspects of a heart may change, but the essence remains always the same..."
A second common theme in the play is the fact that tragedy is universal; it is how each person copes with it that is unique. The recent loss of a dear friend, confidant, advocate and mentor provided an extra level of motivation to complete the play and see it brought to life. However, as much as this final product is intended to honor him, the original goal of the show remains: to shine a light on that dark corner of the soul where grief resides and show that hope remains.
The journey of hope begins here...with you!
"The Music of Change" is part one of the Anywhere But Here trilogy. It focuses on the effects of tragedy and what it takes to begin anew. But that is simply the first step of the journey. The journey from grief back to hope is neither easy nor short, and the journey of these characters will continue to be documented. They will continue towards the light in search of love, liberation, forgiveness, sanctuary and hope. And it all starts here, with "The Music of Change" and with your pledge.
Please note for any pledge involving a ticket to the show: Tickets will be provided on a first requested, first granted basis. If your pledge involves a ticket to the show and the night you want to see sells out, your pledge will not be refunded.
**If you want to pledge money to this project but are not interested or are unable to attend the show, please notify me of that intention. We want to keep as many tickets open as possible.
Risks and challenges
The first major challenge I anticipate is not meeting the goal to hire technicians. I want this production to be fully realized, meaning a full set and complete lighting and sound schemes. The show will happen with or without these elements, but I feel having them emerses the audience more in the story and makes it that much more meaningful and powerful.
The second challenge will be the ticketing for the event. Every pledge involving a ticket will be documented and presented to the Aurora Fox box office. However, any person who wants to see the show MUST still claim their ticket through the Aurora Fox box office. All tickets will be given on a first claimed- first granted basis, so it will be up to each individual to check in with the Aurora Fox box office and ensure they get tickets for the night of their choosing!
*The number and website for the Aurora Fox box office will be provided once this campaign has ended and the Aurora Fox box office is ready to sell tickets.
