Josh and I have come a long way since we first met three years ago through uncanny coincidences. What started off as an amusingly novel jam session between a cellist and a rapper quickly deepened into late nights of sharing stories and incredibly personal songwriting. Our first living room show is still one of the most sacred moments of my freshman year. With people peering through the staircase railings, I felt an inexplicable catharsis and intimacy in a packed roomful of friends and strangers. And now, two years and many living rooms later, Josh and I are recording our first album together.
We want to be able to share our work, in a free and accessible way, with folks who might not be able to make it to our living room shows. We want the energy and raw honesty of our music to keep our audience close, even after the show’s end.
The six songs on the album are incredibly important to us. They capture and celebrate our growth over the last three years as individuals, friends and collaborators. We’ve already started recording at a great studio in Woodstock, NY, but we know we need to raise money in order to complete the process.
We would deeply appreciate your help and support in making this project happen.
We’re doing everything we can to make sure the project is cost efficient, but in order to put out an album at the quality that does the music justice, we need to spend more money then we currently have. After the costs of studio time, mixing, mastering, pressing and paying our brilliant engineer Jared Paul, we calculate that the album will cost us about $3,800.
For those who have asked how to buy the album, this is the best way to support us and help make this project a reality. We plan on distributing the album for free so that our music can be accessible to everyone, but for that to happen, we need your help! We’ve set a Kickstarter goal of $3,800 in the next 30 days. This fundraiser is all-or-nothing, so if we don’t meet this goal, we don’t get any of the money (so this means that you won’t be charged). If we do meet this goal, the album will be funded to completion and we will be able to share our music with friends and family.
Any amount you can donate will help the project along significantly. We would deeply appreciate it and will express our gratitude with a variety of rewards for our donors after we meet our goal. (See right panel for list of rewards!)
Thank you so, so much. This means the world to both of us.
Mel & Josh
