Our mission is simple: Provide the highest quality full-length audiobooks at the lowest possible price.
Kickstarter Campaign Overview:
With this Kickstarter Campaign, we are building an online audiobook library with 55,000 audiobooks from the top publishers, including Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, and Macmillan, also known as the "Big Five" publishers. These "Big Five" publishers are responsible for publishing the most popular, Best Selling authors including James Patterson, Stephen King, Janet Evanovich, John Grisham, Jeff Kinney, Bill O'Reilly, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, Suzanne Collins, Dean Koontz, George R. R. Martin, Stephenie Meyer, Ken Follett, E. L. James, Veronica Roth, Rick Riordan, and David Baldacci, just to name a few.
My Audiobook Library was started in 2011 by David and Nicole Rocheleau and we have been working hard to create a powerful and easy-to-use website and fill it with high quality audiobooks. In over two and a half years, we have secured partnerships with 5 audiobook publishers and have uploaded over 2,000 audiobooks onto the website. Now, we're in a "catch-22". Our customers want to listen to the New Releases from the Top Authors as shown above, but the "Big Five" publishers are unwilling to partner with a company that does not already have a large customer base, and the kind of numbers they want, come from having audiobooks from the "Big Five" publishers. Thus, the "catch-22". This is why Amazon has ~90% of the audiobook market. It is extremely difficult for a new company to compete against Amazon in the audiobook market, and as a result, everyday people are stuck with the consequences of Amazon's Monopoly. Plus, Competition is a good thing. It drives innovation, improves customer service, and keeps prices low. Without competition, Amazon will be able to charge whatever price they want to for audiobooks and not be forced to improve.
What will the Kickstarter Funding be used for?
For this Kickstarter project, we need $12,000 to expand our online audiobook library to include 55,000 additional titles. The $12,000 will be used to purchase a distributors license from a big distributor and be able to upload their full catalog of 55,000 audiobooks onto our website. This license will enable us to substantially grow our inventory and have one of the largest collections of audiobooks available today. We will also need to pay for website changes and a new downloader tool.
By having 55,000 audiobooks, we would be able to compete with Amazon and provide audiobooks to everyday people at prices significantly lower than Amazon. With your help, we can take on the Amazon Monopoly and help support small business in America.
Why are audiobooks so great?
Now why audiobooks, and why are they so great? Well, when I was young, I hated to read. In fact I hated reading so much, that for school book reports, I often chose the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books because I could get credit for the total number of pages of the book, but only read about 20%.
So why would someone who hates reading, start an audiobook company? Because audiobooks take you on that amazing adventure and you don't have to read a single page. Instead, professional narrators read the entire book to you, and it feels more like a movie than a book. Okay, let's fast forward to my adult years. I first got into audiobooks when I started a new job at a large Fortune 100 company that required a daily commute of 112 miles and over 2 hours every day. This commute got old, real fast. As I complained to my friends and family about my horrendous commute, my father-in-law gave me an audiobook to listen to in my car. I was hesitant at first, but after my first listen, I was hooked! Instead of dreading my long commute, I was now looking forward to the escape it brought me from daily stresses. And after 6 years with a two hour long commute each day, I was able to listen to over 130 unabridged audiobooks and looked forward to my drive to and from work.
So, how many of you can relate to a stressful job and long commute? This is why MyAudiobookLibrary.com was created. We believe there are many people out there that are in a similar situation but have never heard of audiobooks, and definitely don't know that they can be downloaded instantly onto their computers and then transferred to any of their devices (smartphones, MP3 players, or tablets) so they can listen to their favorite books while on the go. We firmly believe that audiobooks can greatly improve your quality of life by reducing stress, enriching your mind, improving mood, providing entertainment, and reducing road-rage.
Since commuting is stressful and most people's jobs are stressful, we believe that everyone that has a daily commute to work, that is 20 minutes or longer each way, should be listening to audiobooks. Technology has made it possible and affordable to connect an MP3 Player (iPod), or other listening device, to a car's existing stereo system and listen to an audiobook through the car's speakers. In fact, you can listen to an audiobook on your device while you are exercising, running errands, or simply on the go.
A major priority for us is to keep our prices as low as possible so audiobooks can be affordable for the average person. Instead of paying $35 or more for each audiobook, our standard prices will be only $11 per audiobook (savings of 70% off retail). Also, this is not renting the audiobook, you are purchasing each audiobook and they are yours to keep forever.
We created a professional video to show everyday people listening to audiobooks and how you can get transported into the book. With audiobooks, you can "Turn Your Ordinary into Extraordinary".
Plus, when was the last time you read a good book? Seriously, how large is your ever-growing pile of must-reads? If you are in the majority of people out there, you're too busy to read, and the only time that you get to yourself, is during your daily commute. So make the most of your commute and choose to listen to an audiobook of your choice and escape the stresses of life. Audiobooks have a way of magically transporting the listener to another place and time and taking you on a real adventure.
We wish you well on your audiobook journey, and hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Help us spread the word about audiobooks and tell your friends and family.
After we earn $20,000 from this Kickstarter Campaign, then we will provide custom Audiobook Apps for Apple (iOS) and Android devices (these two Apps would cover around 90% of all devices today). These custom Audiobook Apps would be a free download for our customers, so when a customer chooses an audiobook from our website, that audiobook would automatically be added to their own Library, within their App, on all of their devices. The customer would then have the option to download that audiobook to their device, or to stream the audiobook and not take up space. Plus, the App would keep track of all of their audiobook purchases as well as ensure that all of the audiobooks in their Library could be added or deleted from their device at any time. And last but not least, these Apps also include a feature-rich audiobook player that will automatically create bookmarks so you never lose your place in the book.

Risks and challenges
As with all projects, there are risks and challenges. When our Kickstarter Campaign is successfully funded, we will update our website to display the 55,000 new audiobooks, including the Cover Art, audio sample, and metadata for each audiobook. We will enhance the download process and fully test it to ensure there are no bugs. We expect all of this to take less than 3 months, because we understand the technical issues involved with adding audiobooks to our website. We have been in operation for over 2 years and have a great team in place to ensure a smooth project implementation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
No, absolutely not. Authors and Narrators receive their full royalty for every audiobook that we sell. This is also important to me as well since my wife is a published author, so I am fully in favor and support authors and narrators getting their full due.
