About this project
Every $2,000 we raise above our initial Kickstarter goal empowers Good Coffee to commit to importing life-changing coffee from ANOTHER village in Laos.
Let's make make history together! #goodcoffeelaos
Good Coffee is all about providing YOU with life-changing coffee from our friends in unexpected places in need of a little 'Good'. Our company was born out of a deep desire to impact the lives of people. We dreamt of finding a meaningful way to connect people like you with communities in need around the world in a way that leads to hope, transformation, and deep relationships - all through delicious coffee.
As a part of its efforts during the Vietnam War, the U.S dropped a planeload of cluster bombs on Laos every 8 minutes, 24 hours a day, for 9 straight years, making Laos the most bombed country, per capita, in the world. A third of these bombs did not explode and still remain littered throughout the country waiting for unsuspecting victims, 40% of them children.
Currently, the preventable diseases of pneumonia and diarrhea are the #1 and #2 killers of Lao children under the age of five years old. Primary schools in Laos are lacking of clean water, toilets and hygiene education leading to preventable illness.
We are partnering with the Jhai Coffee Farmer's Cooperative (JCFC), to empower 2,250 families, living in 63 villages in rural Laos! Now all we need is YOUR help.
Good Coffee lives at the intersection of quality, relationship, and impact. In order to cultivate mutually transformative relationships through coffee, we first source some of the best coffee on the globe from farmers we know. Then we roast it fresh, and get it into your hands so that you can drink life-changing coffee. From there we reinvest 25% of our profits into the coffee growing communities through innovative projects.
In Laos, we are working with our on the ground non-profit partners, Filanthrope and Jhai Coffee House, who have pioneered the specialty coffee industry there and have been empowering children in primary schools by providing clean water and hygiene education to schools in need. To date, they've installed ten clean water wells and have provided clean water to over 4,000 children.
You have the opportunity to join us on our mission to become the most impactful coffee company on the planet!
At Good Coffee we work with amazing farmers in the best, and most unexpected, coffee-growing regions of the world to source exceptional beans. These beans smell good, they taste good, but most of all they do good. Our coffee makes its way from farmers we know by name to the hands of coffee lovers who want to make a difference.
We connect coffee growers with coffee drinkers in a way that impacts both, by paying farmers 20-35% ABOVE fair-trade wages so they can feed their families and get access to clean water, and by giving coffee drinkers the opportunity to be a part of changing lives by choosing Good Coffee.
Why Lao Coffee:
1) Coffee is a vehicle for transformation. We believe that coffee has the potential to transform communities in Laos. By investing in the lives of coffee farmers and their communities, we're inviting you participate in the redemptive story of how coffee is moving Lao people out of sickness and into health.
2) The coffee is incredibly Good. Laos has some of the best coffee on the planet. Our team recently cupped the coffee and it's scoring in the high specialty range, making it among the top 2% of coffee on the globe! We want you to enjoy the taste of making a difference every time you take a sip.
3) Our partners are the real deal. Good Coffee is built on relationships, and we couldn't be more excited about this one. Our partners on the ground are ahead of the curve when it comes to innovative approaches to making a difference through specialty coffee. They've fully invested their lives into the coffee growing communities around Paksong, Laos.

The Good Coffee Team:
Below are four of the six Good Coffee team members heading to Laos (not pictured - Dan and Amy). And there are more amazing people working with Good Coffee than this!
Good Coffee is a collective of a handful of incredible people from all over North America committed to transforming lives through coffee.
Timeline and Plan:
We're heading to Laos at the end of February to meet the farmers and community leaders in person, to gather storytelling materials, and to choose which delicious micro lots to bring back to Canada.
We hope to have our first batch of Laos coffee roasted and ready to ship by the end of May.
What the money will do:
By getting involved with this campaign, you'll be helping us be the first to source specialty coffee from Laos to North America. The funds from this campaign will go towards:
- getting the Laos coffee to North America (logistics and importing)
- gathering storytelling materials and building long-lasting relationships on the ground
Where YOU fit in:
A good cup of coffee doesn’t happen by accident. For coffee to be truly good it has to be grown with ‘good’ in mind from the start. It begins with the right soil, sunshine, elevation, climate and farming know-how to produce a perfect bean. But it doesn’t stop there. The coffee you drink should also do good things. It should improve the quality of life of farmers and their families. It should provide ways to empower the communities that grow the coffee and the communities that enjoy the coffee. It should be ‘good’ at every turn.
So we're inviting YOU to help Good Coffee be the FIRST EVER to get specialty life-changing coffee from Laos by supporting this Kickstarter campaign. Back the campaign, and share it with any human you know who loves coffee or making a difference, or ideally one who loves both of those things together.
Join us on this adventure to become the most impactful coffee company on the planet. We couldn't (and wouldn't want to) do it without you!
How We Got Here:
Risks and challenges
Here's the deal: Sourcing coffee from unexpected places poses some significant challenges. Being the first to source specialty coffee from Laos means that we will be pioneering a new frontier - not an easy task but totally worth it.
Because Good Coffee exists only to have positive impact, we tend to run towards the places that many others are running away from. Sourcing coffee the way we do is truly an adventure, so there are risks accompanying this often unstable territory.
I anticipate that our biggest challenge will be in the realm of logistics and importing on this new (at least for specialty coffee) trade route. Even though we've given this endeavor plenty of wiggle room in terms of our timeline, there's always the chance that things could take longer than we hope.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
