Freeborn Overview and Sculpt

Posted by Dark Space Corp (Creator)

Evening everyone! Hope you all had a great week and are gearing up for the weekend!

We're sooooooo close to the next stretch goal in our Global Club rewards, can we hit it tonight?!!

Today's update is a new graphic containing the various items we have about the Freeborn Faction and a new finished model for all to see, check it out:

Head over to the forums to chat

Help us spread the word - If this email is interesting why not forward it to your friends?

We need to make sure everybody knows about us, so we’ve made some helpful artwork to help spread the word. GoA is all about involving you guys right at the start and our first job is to get us funded! So get creative on it, anything you can think of to spread the word from wandering around your home town with a robot WarDrone suit on (ok, so we haven’t actually made any but a simple cardboard box with the words “I’m a WarDrone – Pledge NOW or my IMTel nano-drones will infect you” will probably work!) to downloading this PDF (http://www.darkspacecorp.com/ks-flyer/), emailing it to your friends and relatives, printing it out and handing it out to literally everyone you come across, you can even get some blu-tack and stick it on the foreheads of shop owners if you like! (apologies if you are actually a shop owner… stick it to a customer’s forehead perhaps? )

Anyway, the point is: If you tell as many people as possible there’s a much better chance of us first: hitting our funding target, and second: hitting some of our stretch goals and ultimately giving you even more cool stuff to play with.

Here’s the arty stuff: we’ve got banners, forum avatars and even faction icons

      Very, very disappointing.
I love the concept, I really don't like the mini.
This KS isn't going too well. I, for myself, have pledged for the rulebook and to support this kind of project. It's not with this kind of miniature that I will upgrade my pledge to get some miniatures to go with the rule set.

Please... We want hard SF. Not some space barbarians.

Urgh. Love this project, love the theme, love the concepts, love it all. Hate this sculpt though! It’s sooo Late 90’s G-Dubz. Please take this all as constructive and please ditch that bad boy! I urge you to please continue the more modern look with well-proportioned hands and feet swwn in the Hansa. The concepts seen so far all hint at a really nice natural styling. Albeit they are all fairly static poses but still… the feel is very natural. Someone has already tipped-a-hat towards CB’s Infinity sculpts in the main comments section, and I have to agree, CB currently are producing some of the most aesthetic minis out there. Love or hate the styling, they are able to capture both a good level of both dynamism and proportion in all of their new style minis. Please can we move away from the old-school heroic big hands and feet style with generic ‘hero gun waving’ poses, and instead mirror the new age natural look moving forward. A truly age defining system deserves modern styled minis!

The basic model is nice, basically a low-tech sci-fi ganger. I like that. I feel it´s a huge mistake to add any kind of fur and/or cape. As others have commented, the whole space barbarian theme feels just outdated and wrong. Just because the Freeborn are not as technically advanced as other factions, they´re not as primitive as this model suggests IMHO.

Saying that, I still feel this is a great project, really want it to succeed. There´s absolutely no reason to lower/remove my pledge, keep it up DSC!

Some nice detailing but a dull concept and awkward pose. Please pump out some designs for the more advanced factions before my interest in this project dwindles to nothing. Sorry to be harsh.

I think the sculpt's okay ; it doesn't look enough like the concept art but that doesn't stop them from making another model closer to said concept art.

The biggest problem with this sculpt however is the right arm: it looks very unnatural. It sticks out from the body at the wrong angle, the elbow and wrist are bent at angles that look uncomfortable, and the way in which the arm connects to the body given the extension of the trapezoid muscle is entirely wrong.

Please get it fixed before sending it to the mouldmaker!

      Disappointing.

The sculpt really hasn't captured the feel of the concept art at all. What's with the animal skin cape? I thought the idea with GoA was to break new ground, not fall back on the same old fantasy-scifi themes.

I like it, very nice sculpt. A bit conventional compare to the very nice concepts. But great work nonetheless guys

I find this mini to be good; but yea space barbarian has been done (a little He-man-ish to me, and that's not a bad thing). But the cloak is fine, what's wrong with a cloak? Many people use cloaks. And the proportions seem fine, he's just has a mesomorph body type: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/body-types-ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph.html

Wild West Exodus, IMO, is everything that is wrong with kickstarter. Battlefoam does not need our money to get that project off the ground, and 20K is far too cheap for it anyway: the models, rules, and background are done. They really are just using it a pre-ordering service to see only how many they want/need to make. AKA they don't need your help ;)

    9. Andrew_Roberts on

oh dear is right. I take back that they need greens to get people to pledge - this type of work will bring in nothing. I'm with Matt. time to go.

Oh dear... Silly pose, ridiculous 'super heroic' proportions, an utterly impractical cloak. Not to mention a very dull concept and mediocre sculpting. It would be nice if BTGOA could try to find a distinctive identity or set of themes rather than recycling tired tropes. I would far rather buy into a miniature line with unusual new ideas originating from a universe with some cool/weird new concepts than invest in sub-standard knock offs of already existing lines. A new company like this will not be able to compete on pure sculpt quality with existing players; work on creating something different/unique instead.

Errr warzone circa 1990s !!! Groundbreaking this is not !! Very old fashion when I get back to a pc my pledge will be reduced to £1 or removed completely !! Look at Wild West exodus for example that's a better investment currently, stop this kick starter and re do it when there is a realistic direction please , like the rules hate the mini concepts so far

    12. John Martinson on

Sooooooo nice :D Maybe not so original (is kind any other space barbarian), but a great mini!! :D

Looking great, nice to see something on the factions.
