Apologies for missing last weeks update, but we’ve been very busy getting the last things set for production and shipping of the Almond+. By the time you read this update, the first units have been shipped and tracking numbers should be making their ways to backers in North America. As you can see from the pictures included in this post, production is ramping up quickly and yields are very good. We’ve also performed drop tests on the mass produced units to make sure they’ll live up to both our and your expectations of a solid product.

As you’ll see from the production photos, one feature that we haven’t announced is the inclusion of a heatpipe cooler in the Almond+. This is as far as we’re aware unique to the Almond+ and it makes it the first consumer router to have such an advanced cooling solution. This means that all the internal components can be cooled to a much lower temperature than a traditional heatsink, without the need of a fan. Fans are usually a major failure point in any device they go into and they tend to start making noise after some time.

We’ve stress tested the Almond+ at levels way beyond what you’ll be able to repeat at home and we’ve found our heatpipe to be an excellent cooling solution. The Beta/Dev units shipped with a much more basic heatsink and although that proved to be a “good enough” solution, our concern was for customers located in extremely hot regions of the world and this is why we went back to the drawing board to create a notebook level cooling solution for the Almond+.

The video below shows the heatink and heatpipe being mounted to the Almond+ PCB during the manufacturing.

A lot of you have asked us not to send your package via TNT and we’re working on a solution for this and we expect to be able to announce this next week. It will mean a slight delay in getting you your Almond+, as it’ll reqiure some extra work on our side.

We know this has been a long time coming and there have been more delays than we could’ve imagined in our worst nightmares, but the Almond+ is finally shipping and we want to thank you all for your patience and trust in us to deliver.

      Should I be seeing an email with tracker # soon? I'm in the mid 4000's, black, no sensors, but haven't seen any emails with tracking info. Crazy excited to finally get this! :)

      @Sharkeyx - The email I got from Securifi confirming my shipping address was addressed to my backer number.
      Too bad they wouldn't just ship to my PO Box -- then I wouldn't have to worry about tracking, just wait for it to show up in a secure location.

      Box was exactly as pictured with a reminder that firmware upgrades are coming for the sensors. I am having an issue with the 5 ghz network and also pushing the protocol to n or ac.

      What email address will the tracking numbers be coming from? I imagine mine should be shipping soon (Black US, no sensors) and I haven't seen any tracking emails yet. Just want to make sure I don't miss the email.

      @Automate - Yes, it's the same factory as the original Almond.

      @Robert - That's what we're working on, the apps (both iOS and Android) have been submitted for approval, so we're just waiting for them to be approved by Apple and Google at this point.

      Just curious, Is the Almond+ made at the same facility as the original Almond?

      @Baris - That should be doable, yes.

      @Taiyyib - You'll be in the first shipment of white units. What you want to do might work, but the wireless performance radius is likely to change as it would have some effect on the antennas. As long as it's plasterboard or wood, it shouldn't have a huge impact though, but metal and concrete/stone/bricks is bad for wireless signals.

      @Jonathan - We've sent an email reply to you already, but your unit will go out next week guaranteed. Apologies for the mixup on our side.

      @Robert - The beta/dev units took between 5-7 days in most cases, although some remote areas might take longer. In your case it shouldn't take too long.

      @Dave - Yes, but only by about a week or two at worst. We want to keep things simple for the factory workers to start with, but we'll be joining them once we start shipping sensors to make sure everything is done right.

      @Dave Securifi has said they'll ship no sensor, black, North American orders first, followed by all other black almond+ with North American frequencies second and that all shipping within groups is by backer #. So if you've got a black almond+ and were one of the first backers and live in North America, you should be in the second group. And it sounds like we won't be waiting too much longer than next week to get tracking numbers.

      If so, what are the estimates for shipping early bird with added sensors? Thanks.

      Is there any idea on transit time once it ships to US? I changed my address to work address because it was supposed to ship sooner according to an earlier update and I'm afraid I'll be on vacation when if arrives but I don't want to put it on hold until all others ship which is my understanding of what happens at this point.

      @Jonathan Yes. Shipping starts next week (it's Friday so no shipping this week). If you ordered no sensors and just a black unit, Securifi has said you'll be in the first batch.

      @Taiyyib They said they were shipping black with no sensors in the US, then black with sensors in the US, then the remaining US units, followed by the remaining units. So switching to a color did cause you to move down in the queue. Given that they expect to be shipping to Euro backers in two weeks, I'd say you hopefully won't be waiting very long.

      +1 @ Baris. I was one of the super early bird supporters living in the US (no sensors) but then bumped up to the White version. Perhaps lost my shipping queue # too. When can we anticipate our shipments? Thanks and congrats @Securifi (btw can this router be mounted inside a drywall cutout with cabling routed behind the drywall and still be at cooler temperatures or it's better to lay it down on flat surfaces for better air circulation and stronger wifi signal?)

      Looks great SECURIFI! This was my very first Kickstarter backing and has been easily one of my most anticipated! Others may not comment on this but by the looks of the pictures this factory is very clean and safe for the employees and I can appreciate that from a consumer point of view!

      @Kirpa - It depends on which Z-Wave region you picked. As mentioned, we're making the North American units first, but we have backers in other regions that have ordered the same Z-Wave region and they'll be sent in the same batch. Same goes for those that live in other regions that have ordered the EU frequency, for example, those in Singapore or China.

      @Patrice - The performance for the Wi-Fi is still not quite there, it's by no means terrible and on 1x1 and 2x2 devices you'll be able to get full speed, but not quite on 3x3 devices. We'll be releasing a firmware update in a couple of months that will address that. It'll come with a new Wi-Fi driver as well as full SoC Wi-Fi offload. The range is good and we expect the new drivers to get the performance to where it should to be.

      @Jonathan & sorphinn - You should have your tracking numbers next week, unless you ordered sensors or made colour upgrades. We're shipping black units first, then black with sensors, followed by all the coloured ones.
