Survey results, heartbleed and more...

The results from the survey we sent out last week are in and it looks like you, our backers, have given us a roaring yes that you want to purchase sensors from us for your Almond+. We’ve also decided to add an option for the sensors to be shipped separately, although this would incur additional shipping charges. We’re working out things on our side with regards to how you’ll be able to add sensors to your Almond+ pledge, as well as a payment solution and we’ll bring you more details about this in plenty of time before we ship the Almond+.

Many of you have most likely read about the the OpenSSL security vulnerability known as the Heartbleed bug. We just wanted to give you all a quick update on what we’ve done to secure our web portal. We’ve already patched the Almond+ firmware for our beta and developer level backers to the latest version of OpenSSL and we’ve done the same with our servers. On top of this we’ve also updated all of our SSL certificates with new ones. As unfortunate as the Heartbleed bug is, we took swift action to resolve things with regards to our services and products. You can check heartbleed the status of our web portal here - https://filippo.io/Heartbleed/#connect.securifi.com

Next weeks update will be much longer and contain details with regards to our production and shipping schedule, something that we know all of you have been waiting for. Although the shipping will be staggered and done per region, the gap between the first and last units going out should be very short. All units will be shipped via a courier service, so for those of you that have added a P.O. Box mailing address, please update your shipping address to a physical address to which a courier can deliver. The shipping address can be updated by going to your pledge and then clicking on "Your Response" next to the survey. There is a link at the top for changing your address.

Cheers

How much longer are we looking at for a ship date?

@Benjamin - We'll look into it, but it seems to be early days as yet, so it's a bit too early to say if it'll be a viable alternative or not.

Any plans (long term) to move to LibreSSL? Seems it will become a better alternative at this point.

Glad to hear that shipping should go fairly smoothly once it starts (which hopefully will be soon, maybe early May-ish? Can't wait for the next update.) My Internet provider is coming next week to upgrade us from DSL to fiber, so I'm really looking forward to upgrading my struggling router as well.

@Rand - It doesn't quite work like that, but we've upgraded the software that would potentially allow someone to access certain data that's currently stored in the memory of a device using SSL encryption. You can read more about it at the link provided in the update.

@Ian - Most likely TNT, but we're still negotiating with the courier services available and we'll let everyone know in plenty of time how we'll ship the Almond+.

What courier service for international orders? In Canada, anything delivered by UPS or FedEx incurs a high brokerage fee (for them to act as a customs broker.) Shipments that are handled by Canada Post as international mail are much much cheaper, so having it sent via USPS or HKPost, etc. would be preferred.

The difference is $10 for CanPost compared to $30-70 for UPS and FedEx (depending on declares value, and this is on top of the duties and taxes.)

Our Almond+ would auto block out known bug?
