About

Project Summary

Bad Cop is an animated comedy series about a thirty-year-old man-child who, through some unfortunate circumstances, became a police officer in the prestigious San Martino Police Department. Each episode follows him as he tries—and miserably fails—to navigate being a father, a son, a lover, an ex-husband and most importantly, a cop.

Synopsis

It’s a scary world out there. Every day, the bad guys get badder and the good guys do all they can just to keep up. Luckily, the citizens are protected by the courageous men and women of law enforcement, people who willingly put their lives on the line twenty-four hours a day.

Meet Officer Kenny Spencer, the man who is quite possibly the sorriest excuse for a cop every to put on a uniform—a coffee-stained, untucked uniform at that, one that is probably at any given moment of the day covered in what might actually be his own bodily fluids. Officer Spencer had one goal in life: nothing.

Unfortunately, Lieutenant Briggs stepped in and put Kenny on the path to a life of service as one of the boys in blue. That was Briggs’ third mistake. The first two mistakes were surviving a gun fight thanks to Kenny’s dad, Briggs’ former partner, who stepped in front of the bullet for him; then Briggs had to go and promise a dying Kenny Senior that he would look out for little Kenny and make sure he grew up to have a bright future in front of him.

Now, Briggs is stuck with Kenny on the San Martino police force, where he now has a cop who is a twelve-year-old boy trapped in the body of a thirty-year-old, one who carries a loaded gun for a living. One failed marriage and an impressionable offspring later, Kenny does his own thing, steps on a few toes, and doesn’t really care how many STDs he catches along the way.

The good guys won’t know what hit them and the bad guys are watching to see just how bad it can get.

Characters

If ever there was someone you didn’t want crawling around your crime scene, it’s this guy. Kenny had no aspirations to become a policeman, but when his dad’s former partner, Lt. Briggs, takes it upon himself to get Kenny back on the path to adulthood and basic human decency, it came at the expense of ending up in the police academy. Now, Kenny’s only reason for sticking with it is the perks that rest on the shoulders of that badge: hookers, drugs, and the occasional chance to feel up a female perp during an unauthorized strip search. So what if she was only speeding? She could still be carrying under all those clothes.

Briggs is going to be sorry for the rest of his life for the promise he made to his partner as the fallen officer died in his arms: “Look out for my son...he’s...special.” Oh yeah, Kenny was special all right. Special ed, maybe. Officer Kenny became a giant boil on Briggs’ dark-skinned ass basically from the moment they lowered his dad into the ground. Briggs counted even count the number of times he’d had to let Kenny out of a holding cell for some stupid shit or another, and during a moment of dumb-assed euphoria, Briggs somehow thought that getting Kenny to follow in his father’s footsteps would make the man straighten up. Instead, it just made Briggs say a silent prayer of confession to the entire police force every time Kenny walked in a room.

Bianca was just about every man’s wet dream. She was built like a supermodel but had the morals of a gutter cat with herpes. Only Bianca didn’t carry the herpes. Yet. She was no hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold, but instead knew that the path to happiness started in the back seat of some guy’s car, usually Kenny’s squad car. What started out as a little free pussy for that particular boy in blue in order to keep the cops from harassing her on her corner turned into something more, something special. Well, at least it did for Bianca.

Man, did he have some growing up to do. Too bad his role model was quite well-known around the station for slipping a single down the local librarian’s blouse and telling her there was more where that came from if she’d wear shorter skirts and ditch the glasses. Kenny, Jr. looks up to his old man like any normal kid would. It’s just such a shame that his role model is usually the one the cops would be looking for, if they knew where to look.

Why, When, Where and How

Why?
Why not. We are brothers Michael and Prince, working under the pseudonym Prince Michael II, and are the writers and creators of Bad Cop. We've had this idea for the show and characters for a long while now, but our biggest obstacle has always been gaining the financial means to get started. We've personally financed the introductory monologue of the character in the video above. We have most of the scripts for the first season finished and ready to produce. We’re inviting you to join us on this journey to tell the story of these great characters.

When?

With your backing, we plan on uploading two four to five minute-long episodes per week for a duration of six months, for a total of 48 episodes in the first season. The whole project kicks off in April 2014.

Where?
Every episode will be uploaded at the same time every week on the official Badcopseries YouTube channel. Each episode will be preceded by a short trailer teaser mid-way through the week of upload.

How?
50%
of the money goes to production
30% into the realization of the rewards
10% for Kickstarter / Amazon fees
10% into promotion of the series

Production
It takes approximately seven days from when the script is written and revised to complete a whole episode.

In these seven days, the script is revised by professional comedy writers, sent to the voice over sound effects talent who records the voice overs for the lip synching, and the animator who creates the storyboard in a day or two.

After the storyboard is done, it is sent to us for any rectifications. Upon our go ahead, the animation is started and ready in four days. In the meantime, the voice over / sound effects talent has already been working on the foley art. Once the animation is finalized, all that has to be done is to insert the audio, master it, and the episode is complete.

The writing and production are all freelancers with whom we've worked with and built a trusted relationship with. They all believe in the project and are invested in the characters and the series.

Thank You

Prince Michael II

Risks and challenges

The most likely risks are Production delays. Which is sometimes due to script, animation and voice-Over rectifications. Because we only want to give you the highest quality we can, in preparation for this, we're building in lots of lead time before Spring 2014 when we intend to start the show. Should such issues arise, we'll have plenty of time to sort them without any change in our schedule. We respect you, our BACKERS, too much to have something like that happen.

And with your help through Kickstarter, there is no worry of the project being sidelined due to permits, bureaucracy, or censorship.
