Only a few hours to go and so close to the Setting book stretch goal...
This RPG has many inspirations from history, literature and RPGs.
Take a strong dash of persian mythology and desert culture. Add in some Sword and Sorcery excursions into the desert, ancient temples and dark gods. Finish with group-style play (where every player has multiple characters), a freeform and flexible magic system and a rules set based on the classic and proven D6 system.
The central characters are Sorcerers in an ancient and corrupt city, living together with loyal supporters and employees. The Sorcerers must find and explore ancient ruins in the deep desert to recover ancient lore, for this is the only way new magics can be discovered. The use of multiple characters means that each player can use the best character for each particular mission.
Much of the manuscript has already been written, and indeed one chapter has already been laid out. Both this and the plain text pdf manuscript written will be made available to backers immediately. The manuscript should be complete by the time the campaign finishes with more layout hopefully done by then.
The game will feature multiple original pieces of art by the renowned artist Brian Macey and the whole book will be in colour (although a print friendly pdf will also be made available).
This book will be the first of two volumes, and will provide the rules and a guide to setting to get you started. The full setting guide will follow in early 2015. This rules book contains:
# Fast and action-oriented rules
# Varied and specific character creation
# Freeform magic system
# Group-style play
# Faction relationship rules
£3000 Set of pdf maps of Ur-Turuk itself, the surrounding regions and a building suitable for housing a Vahnam. The larger maps will be in colour and will be high-resolution suitable for poster printing.
£4000 A pdf adventure to get you started, and a pdf set of paper miniatures to bring the game to life on your table!
£5000 The Setting guide will be written by very early 2015, and a pdf sent free to all backers. Physical product backers will then receive a discount coupon to order the printed book from RPGNow should they so desire. Some leatherbounds of the Setting book will also be available.
It will be possible to add extra books to your pledge, especially useful if you pledge for the leather-bound version but want a non-leather to run the game from.
Just pledge an extra amount as follows:
£12 - Standard Softcover
£15 - Deluxe Softcover
£16 - Standard Hardcover
£20 - Deluxe Hardcover
For postage, add an extra £1 per book for UK, £2 for Europe and £3 for Outside Europe.
Risks and challenges
By the end of the funding period, the manuscript will be written, and mostly laid out. The artist will start work on the remaining art as soon as we hit our target and so unless a personal disaster hits either ourselves or the artist, there should be no problems.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
