Crown & Dragon RPG
FIRST STRETCH GOAL: If we reach £2,000, all backers will receive a digital copy of the original novel plus the never-released sequel. Although the timing of this goal is out of my hands, it should not be too long and will not impact the delivery of the main RPG book.
In 1994 the award winning and acclaimed author Stephen Hunt released his first novel entitled "For the Crown and the Dragon". Following the adventures of Captain Taliesin, this novel was set in a world similar to our own (up to a point, anyway) but broken both geographically and culturally by powerful forces.
You can read a sample Chapter from the novel here: http://www.arion-games.com/C&Dch2.pdf
We are hoping to make a full digital version of the novel available soon and hopefully even a new print version!
The year is 1797 and regiments of soldiers march and fight with muskets and bayonets as well as culverins and cavalry. Arcane magic is wielded by Weirdsmen and Mummers, enchanted forest known as the Tumble cloaks much of the land and strange creatures pose a threat to the great warships and merchantmen that ply the seas.
When this novel was first released, a review by Andrew Darlington coined the phrase "Flintlock Fantasy", a term that has stuck and now encompasses a whole genre.
This RPG is a licensed setting for the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) RPG by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. It will allow you to run a campaign set in the Triple Realm with the characters enlisted into a Regiment of "Dragon-Browns", those cut-throats, murderers, thieves and killers too base even for the regular regiments. These ne'er-do-wells may be rough around the edges, but they are effective (and expendable) and can be used for all of those dangerous but critical missions and assignments that could not be trusted to regular troops or mercenaries.
The rules section within contains:
* New Edges and Hindrances
* New Skills
* Setting specific rules
* Steam Powered Vehicles
* New Arcane Backgrounds and Spells
* New creatures
* Information on running a Dragon-Brown campaign
This book does require the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition RPG to play.
A sample character sheet is here:
The setting section contains an overview of what we think of as Northern Europe, a guide to the Triple Realm and life within, details on the army and Dragon-Browns in particular, science and technology, the religions that are still a driving force, various types of magic and a guide to The Tumble, that weirded forest that grows incessantly across all of the land.
Magic in particular is a powerful element in the Triple Realm. Weirdsmen weave spells with Latin phrases to blow apart walls and enemy alike whilst Mummers, eyeless and blinded, delve deep into the minds of men to extract their darkest secrets. Priests of the Tree Martyr call on their God to aid them and those that worship much older and wilder Gods enact strange rituals to tap into the power of the earth.
The manuscript for the book is 95% complete, requiring only further cross-referencing with Stephen Hunt and then proofreading. Layout requires a few tweaks and should thereafter be fairly rapid. A very preliminary layout page is shown below (with my own art as a placeholder):
The art will be by the well known Tony Hough (Fighting Fantasy - https://www.tonyhough.co.uk/) and will commence as soon as the Kickstarter Campaign reaches it's goal.
Like many of my recent Kickstarters, this one will be fulfilled by DriveThruRPG. Pdf codes will be sent out when the campaign is complete and payments taken and those who back at the Print level will be sent a separate code enabling them to order a softcover or hardcover copy direct from the printers. Backers will pay for the printing and postage at the time they order a printed book.
This game is produced under license from Stephen Hunt and Pinnacle Entertainment Group.

Risks and challenges
The manuscript is written, and will be Laid Out before the KS campaign ends. Checking and proofreading should also be complete before the end of the campaign. The art will need to be completed and added into the layout. Fulfillment is via DTRPG.
Barring unforseen major emergencies, there are no significant risks with this project.
