Who are we?
Originating on Block Island, RI, ConserFest is a “music movement for conservation awareness.” Our mission is to raise consciousness for environmental conservation through the celebration of music and art. We are a strictly grassroots effort relying heavily on volunteers for our events and year-round staff, making us a driving force in raising awareness about local environmental issues. The proceeds and donations from all ConserFest events help to support and fund local non-profit organizations dedicated to protecting the natural environment and raising awareness for the conservation and preservation of local land, heritage and culture. Why are we Kickstarting?
We're Kickstarting to put on ConserFest 2015!! ConserFest is a one-day music festival on Sunday, August 2, on Block Island, RI. Local and regional musicians and artists donate their time to play around the Island for this rockin’ festival! As “Music on a Mission”, our goal is to educate about the environment and to encourage participants to become agents of change, embodying the ConserFest core mantra of "Embrace Your Place" and taking it with them wherever they go :)
The money you donate to ConserFest 2015 will help us:
Purchase merchandise to sell at the event, with the proceeds supporting local Block Island conservation efforts.
Fund transportation, housing and food for musicians and artists.
Rent sound equipment and staging.
- Print promotional materials for the event.
- Purchase advertising space for the event.
Who do we support?
We have been working, since our inception, to support Block Island Conservancy (BIC). BIC is the oldest environmental protection group on Block Island, dedicated to maintaining habitats, protecting Block Island's natural heritage, rural character and public access to its resources. We are also working to achieve non-profit status to maintain this local focus while reaching out to other conservation efforts on Block Island. We strive to create new collaborations to continue raising environmental awareness and sharing the message of conservation with a broader audience.
The idea of ConserFest was conceived when its founders recognized the importance and urgency of raising awareness for land conservation among younger generations. Inspired by BIC and other like-minded organizations, they wanted to further these efforts by educating the general public on the magnitude of conserving open space in fragile places like Block Island. Each year, BI receives an enormous amount of impact, both environmental and economical, from tourist populations.
So, how do you raise awareness among younger generations about the importance of conserving open space in fragile places like Block Island? Music became ConserFest's language for speaking out and building awareness and change around these vital issues.
Since 2008, the ConserFest team of volunteers continues to bring together the masses in a series of music celebration events to spread the word about protecting great places!
Risks and challenges
The highest risk with ConserFest is too much fun, great music and missing your ferry :) The show goes on rain or shine!! This is our 7th year organizing the festival, so we really don't anticipate any great risks, but if there is anything that pops up during the process, we will be sure to let you know and keep you posted!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
