About

The LIVING roomlamp project was inspired by our desire to share what we believe to be the needed pivot on how light is used. In a clinical setting, Dr. Ackerman realized that light could be used more effectively. As we worked to produce his vision we began to understand how useful this idea could be in a wide variety of settings. We all wanted one (or more) for our homes and we think you will too.

Modern lighting has become much more energy efficient, but the direction of the light is usually set once and forgotten. Often multiple light fixtures are installed to meet varying lighting needs or we make do with inappropriate lighting for tasks and situations. Being able to have the light move allows for dramatic changes in lighting – directed task lighting to indirect mood lighting – without ladders or touching hot fixtures. All preset or directly controlled from your wireless device. The LIVING roomlamp has Bluetooth control to direct light for precise adjustment and full range of motion. Light direction is remotely controlled Via Android device (with anticipated iOS support) and will allow programmed features including presets for light placement and timers for automated control. What will the money raised be used for?

Currently the prototype is near "Product" completion but we need your assistance in funding the last push to set up for higher volume production. Specifically we need to begin production of the circuit boards and refine the LIVING roomlamp automated eye.

What do I receive for my Contribution?

All contribution levels above $500 will receive The LIVING roomlamp with wireless control. NOTE: Contribution levels 1200$ or more will have the option of choosing one of three models that will be prototyped and shown as the campaign rolls out.

How far along is the project?

  • Fully functional bread boarded electronics
  • Pre-production electronics boards are on order
  • Programming and firmware prototyped and functioning
  • Design for manufacturing on lamp base and boom complete
  • Local contract manufacturers for mechanical components identified
  • Local source for sustainable wood identified

Philip Fitzsimons  - Philip leverages a broad and deep technical background to produce successful designs. He is formally trained as a mechanical engineer with a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology. During his academic training, which focused on dynamic systems and controls and signal processing, he developed a complementary passion for and hands-on knowledge of electronics.

Kevin and Steve Stich - Contract Manufacturers Journeymen. Kevin and Steve run Motion Metalworks LLC in Wrens Ga. a 120,000 square foot manufacturing facility. Risks and challenges

To avoid the challenge of international shipping, the LIVING roomlamp will not be shipping outside the US. Building a safe product will require testing. We do not see this as a challenge but are aware that it will require appropriate funding and time. When building a multi-part assembly there is always a risk that one component or outside vendor can slow progress and part of the fun of a project like this is the challenge. - we will update often as we proceed with the project, Sharing is more than half the fun and we hope you will help us create the LIVING roomlamp for your living room!
