About this project
The Famous Vernon's Jerk Sauce that does not overpower your tastebuds, but adds a succulent zing and makes you want to try more.
Hello everyone. I am Allan Vernon, and the owner of Vernon's Jerk Sauce. I am the original pioneer of jerk style cuisine in the U.S.A, and years ago I was named the "King of Jerk" by the New York Times. My first restaurant was located in the Bronx in 1982. I enjoyed serving people my fiery Jamaican style barbecue called jerk. Another of my restaurants was in Manhattan which had the pleasure to serve people like Bill Cosby among others.
I suffered a stroke in 2009, and since then my resources have been severely reduced. However, I am now on my way back, and I have this unrelenting desire to share my sauces with you once again. I am seeking this money to restart the product and publish a hard-cover recipe book with additional recipes as recommended by Barnes and Nobles. I will be adding more recipes to my previous book.
I have had many calls from former and prospected customers nation-wide, requesting my products as it is the "best" they know. I look forward to receiving your support.
The New York Times, Feb 13, 2002 - Dining in Dining Out....Grandfather of Jerk Still Going Strong by Eric Asimov- Jerk, the Jamaican term for meat or fish that has been marinated in a spicy sauce and cooked over a low fire is now firmly established in New York, but Mr Vernon's own journey over the last two decades exhibits the ups and downs typical of an entrepreneur operating on a low budget. Quickly he won praise and fans, including the Jamaican-born Patrick Ewing, whose nearby office in Madison Square Garden made Vernon's a convenient dining room................Mr. Vernon's technique combines oven baking with charcoal grilling, a compromise to be sure, but this jerk is superb by the virtue of the excellent sauce.
Times Union Newspaper, Albany NY March 13, 2003.......(By Doug Blackburn, Staff Writer) Vernon opened Vernon's Jerk Paradise in the northeast Bronx more than 20 years ago. When he opened a second shop in Manhattan's garment district, celebrities from nearby Madison Square Garden like former New York Knicks star Patrick Ewing and comedian Bill Cosby became ardent fans of Vernon's down-home Jamaican chicken. They also convinced him to bottle his jerk sauce, which Vernon has been doing for the past eight years. Playboy Magazine called it the best jerk sauce in the United States.
