After positive reception of our first album, MES is kickstarting our second album.
We are hoping to bring new classic video game themes to life with our unique brand of mariachi, and to add new instrumentation and utilize our singing voices. We see great potential in realizing these musical arrangements with mariachi, and want to continue to explore those possibilities with your help.
I often feel that when blending mariachi with other genres of music, there is a fine line between great musicality and hokeyness. I think it's easy to be complacent about which elements you choose to draw from each genre and just kind of "plug-in" things to make a tune happen. MES is all about finding that balance, delivering with great execution, and working to make two very different things seem organic to one another.
We want to expand on the use of indigenous mariachi rhythms and styles, and really show off what a mariachi can do. While they won't be straight sones from Jalisco or Michoacan, the DNA will definitely be there underneath a full chorus of vocals, and weaving between a violin and vihuela duet.
MES has always been about putting out the best possible product we can, and we keep learning more each time. We are hoping to bring a more musically dynamic sound to our second album, with higher highs, and more intimate lows.

Risks and challenges
THE TUNES (Cont...)
Our biggest barrier is licensing. Because of the nature of copyright holdings and cover music, we have to be thorough in the legal process involved for licensing our tunes. There are many tunes we want to cover but will all be subject to licensing issues. This is especially true in the case of Nintendo music. If we can't get something appropriately licensed, it just won't be possible for us to have on our record. THIS IS CRUCIAL TO REMEMBER FOR THOSE PARTICIPATING AS EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS.
***The most common barrier to licensing a song is that the song in question does not have an official release in North America by the copyright holder who has the right to first-release***
Exploring new territories even within our niche can be risky. There's new ground to be broken still, a lot of ground to make up before we meet the potential that exists for video game music mariachi.
