About this project
It's common knowledge that there is only one thing funnier than a wake. And that's the wake of your girlfriend that killed herself after a night of you ignoring her phone calls. Coincidentally, that is exactly what my dark comedy WAKE is all about.
After Andy's girlfriend kills herself because he ignored her calls, he must attend her wake and face her strange parents...
"I never realized suicide could be so much fun!"- RODRIGO GUDIÑO, President of RUE MORGUE Magazine
I've made several dark comedic shorts that explore death and suicide but none of them have really gone as far as WAKE. We're all familiar with the pain and heartbreak of suddenly losing someone we love and WAKE explores those emotions while taking us to a place where we can't believe we're laughing.
"Like Monty Python, George Carlin, and Mark Twain - Christian Nilsson understands that comedy comes from pain. Humans are ridiculous creatures and Christian's work demonstrates a unique understanding of this fact. I'm looking forward to whatever his sardonic soul comes up with next."- SEAN BRIDGERS of HBO's DEADWOOD
WAKE has a unique and risky comedic sense that we don't see enough of today. We all have issues with mortality and WAKE has the ability to turn it around and force us to look at it and laugh.
"At the heart of the most hilarious of comedies lies utter tragedy and it takes a razor sharp director to navigate the thin line between the two; Christian Nilsson is one of those skilled directors. While Nilsson's topics are dark, they are infused with pockets of light and at the same time, provoke our feelings about our own mortality"- JENNI POWELL, Editor at TUBEFILTER.TV
Everything is starting to fall into place for this short. All we need is funding. The only thing more expensive than a film production is a funeral... and we're attempting to merge the two. Please help us produce this unique comedic short. Every dollar helps.
Check back periodically for updates...
That depends on how much we fundraise. If we meet our $3,000 budget we will shoot on a SONY EX3 with a LETUS ADAPTER and ZEISS 35mm lenses -- but if we exceed our goal we will be shooting on the Arri 535B 35mm camera.
