Our names are Zach Gospe and Riley Soward. We are both seniors in high school and we’ve been best friends since the very first day of kindergarten. Zach is a singer-songwriter and guitar player who was 1 of 12 songwriters selected to participate in the Los Angeles GRAMMY Camp this past summer. Riley is Zach’s manager and an aspiring music industry professional.
Today we are here to ask for your support for something that is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. If we reach our fundraising goal, we will be able to go down to LA to record a 6 song EP with LA producer Mark Mazzetti, who’s worked with artists including John Mayer, Janet Jackson, Elton John, and Sting!
It's always been our dream to professionally record Zach's music. This is our chance to reach out to others and share his songs with the world. We are so excited for this project and we really hope that you can be a part of it and help make it happen.
Check out one of Zach's songs and the rest of his EP on his Soundcloud below!
About the Project:
Two months ago we met Mark Mazzetti at the West Coast Songwriters Conference in Los Altos Hills, CA. We gave Mark one of Zach’s CDs and our contact information, not expecting to hear back from him. But just a week later we got a call from Mark saying saying he liked Zach’s music and wanted to record it!
We’ve been working together with Mark over the past month and a half to put together a detailed plan and budget for a 6 song EP that we can share with a broader audience. Now we just need the funding to make it happen.
If we reach our goal on Kickstarter, this February we will both be traveling to LA for 10 days to record an EP in one of Mark’s studios. All the Kickstarter funds will go directly to recording and producing of this EP, and we will be covering all travel costs ourselves.
Zach will be singing and playing guitar and other very talented musicians will be brought in for the drums, bass, piano, backup vocals, etc. Riley will be managing the fundraising, promotion, and press for the EP. *Please note, Riley will not be playing on the record (oh thank goodness!).
Zach and Riley’s parents will be handling the money itself and overseeing the project, and Mark Mazzetti will be in charge of spending budget for the EP when we’re in the studio.
We’ve been best friends since the very first day of kindergarten.
The story goes we both reached for the same graham cracker at the same time. We made eye contact, and at that moment, Riley knew Zach was going somewhere big. Right then and there, before Zach even could even fully sign his own name, Riley signed Zach onto a 12 year contract.
Since that day, we’ve been best friends. Throughout high school, we’ve been working closely together as a duo–Zach as the musician and Riley as the manager. We’ve always dreamed of working together on a big project, and this is finally our chance. It’s our final year of high school and we’re so excited to have the opportunity to do something really big.
Team Zach Gospe:
The Talent - Zach Gospe:
I began my music career at age five, learning piano, drums, bass guitar, and finally settling on guitar. Influenced by music from John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and U2, I began to dive into the world of songwriting as my vocal and guitar skills increased. Now that my abilities as a writer and musician have grown tremendously, recording a studio EP is the next clear step for me. I am truly excited to have this opportunity to develop my musicianship even further and send my music out into the world.
The Guy Behind the Scenes - Riley Soward
I think that Zach's music is magical and I want to share his songs with the world. As Zach’s manager, I’ve been in charge of organizing his concerts/recording sessions/music videos, promoting his music, and networking with important people in the music business. In addition to being Zach’s manager, I’ve gained insight into the industry through my internship with blues-rock singer-songwriter David Jacobs-Strain. The music industry is such an exciting industry to be a part of and I hope we get this opportunity to record Zach's songs in the best way possible. If we do, we will be able to spread the magic I hear in Zach's music to the rest of the world.
The Producer - Mark Mazzetti
We are so lucky to have Mark Mazzetti on our team (he’s worked with a lot of successful musicians, including Elton John, John Mayer, Sting, and Janet Jackson!). Before we go down to LA, Mark will be doing artist development sessions with Zach to help him develop the songs for the EP. Once we’re in the studio, he will be producing the entire album–this means overseeing all aspects of recording, mixing and mastering. Mark has had quite a successful career and has 20+ years of record production, mixing & co-mastering experience. He has been a driving creative force behind multi-Platinum, Grammy Award-winning records and we are really excited about his vision for the EP.
The Adults Making It Happen: Mary Gospe and Mike Gospe
Zach’s parents, Mary Gospe and Mike Gospe will be overseeing the Kickstarter project, managing funds and ensuring the fulfillment of rewards. Mary will accompany us to Los Angeles for the pre-production, recording and mixing sessions. Mary and Mike run their own company, Gospe Enterprises, Inc. and are co-founders and principals of KickStart Alliance, a marketing and sales consulting practice based in Silicon Valley, CA. If you have any questions about how the project is going to be executed, you can contact Mary at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Videographer: Nicole Falsetti
We are also very lucky to be working with our classmate and gifted videographer, Nicole Falsetti. Nicole filmed and edited our Kickstarter video, and we will be teaming up with her to film a music video for one of the songs from the EP after it is released.
Where the Money is Going
We’ve already gotten the money to cover the costs of food/transportation/hotels. Because of this, all the money we raise is going directly to the recording of the album itself.
The funds we raise will be used for:
* Pre-production session
* Master recording in a professional, digital recording studio
* Hiring of professional, live musicians; recording engineer; mix engineer and mastering engineer
* Mixing and mastering
Please note that our producer Mark Mazzetti will be in charge of the studio budget, not us. Also note that you will only be charged if we reach our goal of $10,000.
We are so excited about this project. It’s always been our dream to work together on something like this, and now we have the opportunity. We have an amazing producer, we have the full team assembled, we have everything planned. All we need is the funding to carry out the project.
We really hope you consider investing in our project and in our careers. Thank you so much for your time!
Risks and challenges
As with any musical recording, there is always the chance we may run into time issues. Between the recording, mastering, and distribution of EP, there are many places where an unexpected challenge could arise. We, along with our team, are going to be working as hard as possible to make sure the whole process happens in a timely matter. If something does come up, we will be keeping everybody updated through Kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
