Skallywaggs Pirate Card Game
Players build a band of Buccaneers from body parts laying about. The first crew that can sail the ship wins the day. 2-4 Players 12+
A beautiful ship sits at port, eagerly awaiting a crew to sail her. You sit inside The Grand Llama, crowded den of cutthroats, madmen and general rouges. Your job is to see whether or not a crew can be scraped together out of these pirates, get enough hands on deck and take that ship to sail forth towards swag and plunder!
Skallywaggs is a standalone card game for 2 to 4 players ages 12 and up. Players take turns building pirates out of assorted body parts and playing event cards. On its face Skallywaggs looks like a pirate building game where you make pirates out of heads legs and bodies. In reality it's a pirate stealing game because once you've built a pirate you're constantly stealing better parts from other pirates and becoming stronger. The 90 parts included in the game go together 27,000 different ways. A crewman could start off life bald, dead and pantless, and with some new parts taken from the commons or stolen from other players he could wind up a captain. Once assembled major characters like a captain or first mate give your crew added powers. Combine these powers with some truly underhanded event cards to keep your opponents from building a crew that can compete with yours and you'll win.
Skallywaggs was Bentcastle's first game. This will be its second printing and it has a lot of small tweaks and one or two big changes. For those familiar with the game read the what's new paragraph. The biggest change is the card size. The original was 56mm x 87mm, the new cards are 53mm x 96mm. This new size not only cleaned up the original design but allowed us to develop an expansion.
Over the years many fans have asked for a expansion to Skallywaggs. This 60 card deck adds a whole new dimension to the game. It introduces undead crewman and characters so players can choose to build a living, undead, or mixed crew. The new body parts make it possible to build over 64,000 new pirates and the new events skew the playing field to favor differing crew types.
The Big Picture
Our hope is to raise enough money to get Skallywaggs and the Dead Man's Chest Expansion printed. The funding goal of 10K will get us just Skallywaggs. If we can get to 20k we will print a very small run. At 26k we will print a full run of the expansion. From that point all our over funding bonuses reduce the cost of one expansion for each backer. Our hope is to get it down to $2.00.
For those who know the game here are the changes. In the events we removed a Crack Down (every crew loses 2 pirates) and added a Overboard (player of your choice must discard 3 cards). Hurricanes just wipe the Commons they no longer keep players from sailing.
In the crew the Mutineer and Cursed Sailor got a bit worse, they both cause player to draw one less card per turn. The Navigator now allows a player to set sail on any players turn. The Magistrate is totally new and way powerful. He can put one pirate from any crew or two from yours in jail for one round.
Rules changes are slight. 9 crewman not 10 to win in a 2 player game. The two Captains rule is now no crew can have two Captains. Under special optional rules the Dutchman and St. Elmo powers are both new.

Please note if we make it to 26k the 20k bonus is replaced by it. Also if we make it to 32k all backers will get the ability to by one Dead Man's Chest expansion per backer at $6. Any additional expansions would be a $8 optional buy. The 40k and 56k bonuses make the cost of the one Dead Man's Chest less. They do not offer additional low cost expansions. We understand that our Stretch Goals will make many people lower their pledged by a couple of bucks each. If this causes the total to dip just under the goal we will still honor the goal that was reached.
US Shipping - If you add any optional buy to your reward you must also add extra shipping of $2.00 for 1 - 3 items or $8.00 for 4 - 10 items. Total shipping is capped at $12.00.
Worldwide shipping - If you want to back us from outside the US let us know and we'll try and accommodate you. It will be expensive! Do not be shocked if you spend more on the shipping than the game for a single copy. The bigger your order the more cost effective the shipping.
Risks and challenges
This is our 6th Kickstarter, as with the others we are presenting our best estimation of rewards and production schedule. Pledgers must know that until the campaign ends some details will be in flux. Once funding is secured we can nail down the scope of our project and choose the right vendor to manufacture it. They set the final delivery date; it may or may not be in line with our estimation. It is our experience that delays happen. Production delays, shipping delays, and the dreaded customs delays. Know now they are a fact of life. We have and will dance with these devils to ensure the best possible outcome. We have always delivered in the past and have no reason to believe that will change.
In the past we have been late by 1 to 3 months. Despite our best efforts delays get through. We will put that best foot forward again, who knows maybe 6 is the charm.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
