About this project
Thank you so much!!!
We made this video to keep you guys inspired!
What is it that draws us to spend time with these amazing animals?
What is the Essence of the Horse-Human relationship?
Essence is a short film that will explore the bond between horses and humans. From Ivy: This film has been a dream of mine for years. Every since I first saw a Piano Guys video, combining music and video to create art, I have been inspired to create movies that evoke emotions and inspire people.
Essence will weave together inspirational quotes, soaring music, and magnificent horses and landscapes. In addition, Essence will explore what lies behind our universe and our desires for relationship: Is there something more? A greater force at work?
We have the draft of our script complete, and are fine-tuning it now. If you have followed me (Ivy) for any length of time, you know that Liberty work is my passion - we will be capturing the best of it and work on more liberty training as we progress in this project.
Sarah and I will be training our equine stars, Jackson and Sadeem, to do even more tricks. We will also be training at least one other of our own horses and will be reaching out to other horse owners to bring in unique breeds to work with.
We need you to be involved to make this happen! Whether you are able to support the project through a monetary donation or are able to be on the set to share in some of the fun and craziness of filmmaking, we'd love to work together with you on this project.
And in the end, we hope everyone will enjoy and be inspired by our movie.
Sarah and I plan to use this money for equipment and extras that will make this movie an amazing visual and auditory experience.
- Sony A7s camera (for cinematic results)
- Four Nikon series E lenses and adaptors
1. Nikon 24mm
2. Nikon 55mm
3. Nikon 85mm
4. Nikon 200mm
- Professional music score
In addition to the equipment, money raised will go toward transaction fees and reward costs.
We REACHED our first stretch goal!
We reached this goal, and now we will be able to make this movie even more amazing and continue to provide amazing and inspirational videos down the road.
Why film aerial footage? Well, horses are amazing animals, even at ground level, but the ability to video from the sky and keep up with their speed will enhance the overall presence of the film.
Second Stretch Goal Reached!
A professional rail system will include a matte box for controlling light, follow focus system to make it easier to get correct focusing, and shoulder mount for more maneuverable filming. The rail system allows us to mount accessories around the camera easily and gives more options in difficult filming conditions.
Third Stretch Goal Reached!
Ivy: I have been training horses for years now, but sometimes people ask: why movies? My first glimpse of the art possible through a combination of music and visual media came from watching The Piano Guys on YouTube. Nearer My God to Thee, which makes really good use of lighting and both movement and still shots, made me want to make a movie just like it. I have been practicing photography and cinematography for a couple of years.
I have made a few short films, as well as numerous horse videos (both training and artistic), and I am excited to finally start filming a movie that has been in the works for several years.
Sarah: I have also been training horses for a while. The movie side for me came at a conference in 2008. They played a movie called "Have You Ever Wondered" (which to this day, I haven't been able to find online!). The movie featured a little girl asking questions about life - and I knew then that I wanted to make something that captured attention that way - for horse people!
A few years later Ivy told me her idea about doing a horse video - and it was exactly the type of project that I wanted to be involved in. I have done a couple short films with Ivy and her family now, and have learned a ton from them. We have been talking about this movie for years now, I'm ecstatic about starting this project!
Risks and challenges
Once we get the funding, we need to gather all our resources and to work on scheduling the filming. We already have several amazing filming locations lined up here in the Midwest, but we need to get more arranged. We plan to assemble more horses and horse people together for the couple weeks of filming. We already have friends ready and willing to come help, but we need to get logistics worked out.
See timeline above.
We plan to do the bulk of the filming in May and June, taking advantage of the lovely spring and summer foliage.
Working with horses provides it own difficultly, but ours will be made more tricky by the fact that most of it will be done at liberty. This means no ropes connecting the horses to us. The horses are free to run away or not perform at all if they wish. The horses we are using already enjoy the this work, but there will always be added stress and we will need to work hard to keep it fun and engaging for the horses.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
