Long Awaited Update!
We've started building! We just posted photos on our blog. It took us a while to get around to it because we've been busy planning the boat, budgeting, translating imperial to metric measurements, and basically getting the workshop up and running. With assistance from the Berlin-Lichtenberg Job Center (unemployment office) we also have 4-new participants taking the current team to eight. The group includes at least one or more persons from Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. We talk to each other in varying degrees of German and an assortment of other languages. Most important, we're finding our working rhythm!
We chose a sleek design that comes from the Florida Keys. For those of you who know boats, it's a single-chine power cruiser – suited for semi-protected waters (i.e. Florida to Cuba), capable of weeklong excursions, and ideal for the lakes and rivers in Berlin. To the best of our knowledge, no one has built it before! We chose the design for its low lines, and because you can sunbathe on both its top and rear decks, and find shelter in a decent size cabin. At 8.3 meters, we'll push our budget and make a second funding drive for a suitable motor.
The workshop is open four-days a week, but we're not in a rush. We plan to have the boat finished before the end of the year and ready for the water next Spring.
All the rewards that are possible to make before the actual boat is finished are now ready. If you have not received yours, we will be contacting you. For those of you in the US, rewards will be distributed in July.
We regularly post photos on Instagram and suggest you follow us. Periodically, we will update the blog and send notifications. If you have any questions about rewards, our progress, future plans, suggestions or want to help, please contact us!
Thanks for your patience and continued support!
