ABOUT FILM - DIRECTOR`S COMPREHENSIVE COMMENTS
Shadows is a film based on true events and delivers a story about the fate of the assassinator of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. This assassination is one of the most significant events in the history of mankind because it served as a alleged motive for for the beginning of, what would later turn out to be, the greatest war the world has ever seen to that moment. This is a movie about young men who inscribed his name in the pages of history for eternity. The storyline covers the period after the assassination and it is set in the Czech prison Terezin, where the assassinator was sent to serve a twenty-year sentence. The events inside the prison reveal the character of the assassinator, his psychological state, motives which drove him and his bitter struggle, not only with the guards but also with himself. Shadows is a story about sacrifice. It also presents a tale of human kindness which transcends the boundaries of nationality and affiliation to any of the belligerents. It depicts the need of young men to help his people and sacrifice for, as he believed it would be, a better future. A future, of which, he knowingly would not be a part of. Through his conversations with the Austrian psychiatrist - Dr Martin Pappenheim - Gavrilo Princip discloses his life to us and the events that preceded the assassination. Although he was there for other reason, Pappeheim couldn't miss opportunity to talk with most known prisoner of that time. Princip lived there in very harsh conditions. Doctor was the only person who was allowed to talk to Princip. He wasn’t allowed to talk to anybody else or to meet any other person from prison or from the outside. The film came into being on account of the notes of the psychiatrist, which he took during four meetings with Princip, and historical books such as ,,Sarajevo 1914.'' from Vladimir Dedijer - published on Harvard and ,,Gavrilo Princip'' from Drago Ljubibratic - school friend of Gavrilo Princip. On rare occasions, does a film have an opportunity to depict such an important event on its centenary.
Beside the story of Gavrilo and Pappenheim, movie introduces character of young Austrian soldier, Czech by nationality, František Löbl.
Shadows will be a provocative, vivid and an emotional film. The assassination should be perceived through the prism of its time and the circumstances which surrounded it. That is what the film Shadows would offer.
December 1914. - Young Austrian soldier, Czech by nationality, František Löbl(19) is knocking a large nails into barrel, making a makeshift iron maiden. He is preparing to welcome Gavrilo Princip(20) into military dungeon Terezin. Young Bosnian is brought to serve twenty years sentence for killing archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. After arriving, guars put Gavrilo into barrel and started rolling it from one side of the room to another one. That game amused guards. Until April of 1916. nonstop solitary, starving, sleeping on floor and fetters are part of Gavrilo's everyday life. He is losing weight, tuberculosis is eating him alive. Right arm is not in the function any more, its hitched to his shoulder with the metal wire. At this time psychiatrist Pappenheim comes to see him. At first, Princip doesn't believe doctor but after he takes him to the hospital things gradually change. Pappenheim takes notes from those meetings and František Löbl who listens to those conversations becomes more and more interested in Gavrilo's story about family, early life, fighting for freedom. Dreams of soldier František are restless. He is torn by the guilt because he took part in torturing of Gavrilo. He breaks into Pappenheims cabinet in order to read the notes from the conversations he couldn't participate in. By all means he tries to find out as much as he could about Gavrilo's life, to reveals his motives and ideals. He looks for the way to redeem.
Where is all this money going?
Every cent that we receive in this project will go directly to cover the costs of making this film. So far we comleted 30% of film and we need minimum 16,750$ to finish it. Without the help of people from kickstarter community film Shadows probably won't be made!
Here is a short breakdown of the budget:
PREPRODUCTION - To continue the shooting we need to have hospital room, as well as Princip's cell and psychiatrist Pappenheim's office. Story of film is happening 100 years ago and we need to find locations from that period that are in good condition or to build replicas. Also we need to make costumes that we can't rent and to prepare special makeup because some characters in the film have terrible tuberculosis wounds. (28% of budget will cover the cost of preproduction)
PRODUCTION - We need to cover the 8 shooting days and that means equipment rental (Camera, Lighting, Stage Rental), paying locations fees, covering food and drinks on set and covering cast and crew cost. (40%)
POSTPRODUCTION - Covering editing, sound mixing, composing of music, color correcting and special effects that we need to improve in material we currently have and for one we need to make. The more money we have the higher production value we can deliver. There is very complex scene, dream of one guard which should be done mostly in postproduction. (17%)
KICKSTARTER AND AMAZON FEES - (8 to 10%)
MAKING AND SENDING KICKSTARTER AWARDS AND COVERING OTHER COSTS - (5-7%)
What if we exceed our kickstarter goal?
That would be AWESOME! With additional money from exceeding our goal limit we plan to build better set, rent better equipment and hire more professionals, make more from postproduction and make better film in general. In that case the whole production will be put in higher level. If we get enough founds we can shoot part of film in original location! That is quite expensive but possible and Milos is already made some contacts on Berilnale tihis year with producers from Czech Republic so that is still a open possibility.
Why we need your help?

They ended up with two screenplays, a 70 pages for long feature film and 15 pages for short film that we are doing kickstarter for.
During the master studies, Milos won the prize with his first ever directed short movie, and he was representing Serbia on Empire awards festival in London that year. Shooting music videos came next.
