What is it?
Until now, programmers have had no way of showing off what they do or what they are interested in. This book is an open door to dialogue and discussion about the world of programming, its roots, and its depth. Whether you program as a hobby or a profession, "Hello, World!" is the perfect book for your coffee table. Each two-sheet spread reserves one page as a display of the "Hello, World!" command and the other for fun facts about the language, its history, and uses.
Get ready to be the coolest programmer on the block!
The “Hello, World!” command is the first and most basic program that one executes when learning how to program. The crazy thing about it is that it’s written differently in every programming language, despite doing the same thing in all of them. Just about every programmer marks the beginning of their programming career with the "Hello, World!" command.
What's so special anyway?
This is the first purely aesthetic book on programming. "Hello, World!" makes a great addition to any coffee table and works great as a conversation starter or gift to anyone interested in programming. From beginner to advanced, every coder remembers and cherishes the moment when they were able to execute their first program. Even non-coders will find this book interesting as a brief peek into the history of programming languages that power our everyday lives.
- A two-page spread for each language detailing the history and some interesting facts about the programming language, as well as the code for the "Hello, World!" command.
- “A timeline which places all of the programming languages chronologically, so you can see how languages developed and built upon each other.”
- A glossary to help explain all the different terminology and features that make each language unique and useful.
- QR codes for learning more about each language, and even how to program in it!
Just the beginning of your programming adventure!
“Hello, World!" is the elementary step to starting every language, but there's much more to learn. To support your continuous learning of programming, we’ve included some QR codes that link to more documentation on each language.
We need you!
Boaz and Daniel have worked together over the course of multiple years to turn what was once just an idea into what’s (almost) a reality. After consulting with programmers, designers, and innovators, we’ve created exactly what we imagined, but now we need your help. All funds contributed towards this campaign will cover printing costs in order to turn what’s now just a .pdf into an elegant hardcover coffee table book.
- 9x9 in. hardcover bound
- 96 pgs.
- 40+ programming languages
- Printed on 135# gloss paper
Thanks to all who have supported the campaign!
Risks and challenges
From here the only real risk is with the printing of the books. This includes any errors or time delays with the printing and shipping of the books. In order to mitigate this risk, we will be receiving a proof of the book before the rest of the copies are printed, and will be in constant communication with our printers, as well as our backers to update them when we become aware of any problems.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
